How to flash a generator

Flashing is done by applying power from a battery via a diode momentarily to the slip rings or ABR field wires, note the polarity, and connection time 1-2 seconds. This is done when a unit has lost it's residual magnetism in the rotor laminates due to sitting for long periods.09a2964b-b365-4259-8872-4f0fc996930e.jpg

Generator starts but then turns off and wont turn back on

Make sure the oil level is at capacity first, then turn off the generator power breaker bar that allows power to flow to the recepticals. The generator must be started with no amperage draw until warmed up. If this does not help, then there is a problem and likely the unit has been overloaded and needs servicing.

Powermate 6250 PM0545008 Voltage Output is at 129V, Is this safe for my house hold appliances? Is there a way to adjust the voltage?

It isn't really a good idea to use a portable on "modern home elctronics" the way the regulate the voltage is not a s tight as a digital AVR found on permanent home generators. While this voltage is not uncommon, I would not recommend it

Want to add 240volt outlet to generator

You CANNOT do this, USA 240V is derived from a poly phase scenario, IE 120V line to neautral and 240V line to line, UK 240V is derived from 1 line to neutral it will not work unless you power a transformer

I have a coleman powermate PM0495503, and it has

On a 120-240V system you should have a reading between white and black as desribed, you should have nothing between the black wires and ground, however you can only test by completely disconencting them all, you may have a N-G bonding jumper in the output wirs giving you that reading

How do I hook up to dryer plug

Do NOT hookup to a dryer plug, it is dangerous to back feed a panel through a dryer plug. Besides dryer plugs (older ones) have a N and G combined in a 3 prong plug, new dryers and wiring have 4 prong where the N and G are correctly seperated. Do not backfeed !

Generator hard to start

Check for a spark at the plugs, make sure fuel is fresh and fuel filter is clean. If it is still hard to start make sure fuel is getting to the plugs, then I would recommend a compression check or leakdown check. Also check the choke try it mid way versus closed all the way in case your carb misture is off
