If the drive is not being detected all the time this is a sign that ether you just need to map the drive or that there is a problem with the drive encloser.

These links will help you map the drive letter to the drive. Also you might try the drive on another computer so times the the drive will not get safely removed and the drive state needs to be reset.

connect your HDD to USB wait for a minute and if you get any additional icon in systray. Press Start Settings Control Panel Administrative Tools Computer Management Disk Management See anything noted as 'Unallocated Space'? If yes...Right Click on it, Partition it and then Format it. Now open my computers your hdd will be there. If this does not work then you've to connect it to a linux pc. and use mount command and mk2fs to format it. This happens due to a virus. It corrupts autoexe.

Open device manager. Start-Run-> Type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
Then CLick the +sign next to USB controllers and see if the there is a USB mass storage device. Let me know your observations and I will advice you accordingly.

welcome to USA, we use our own adapters here, 120vac and special plug AC side. where do you live country.? simpletech 320GB BOM No: 96200-41001-05 they sell them on ebay, why not look there and buy it. output 12vdc 0.4 amps or MORE. center pin must be + output end. any pack 12vdc like above works, over 0.4amps. and AC end correct and if you have 240vac make sure the pack does that too.
