While holding the code key down press the period key then release. If this does not work turn off typewriter. Insert a sheet of paper in the t/w in the wide position. Turn on t/w while holding down the MR and #1 key. The t/w will start printing on it own. Allow it to print out 7 lines and then turn the t/w off. That should reset the typewriter.

if it is printing the correct words it is most likely set for right margin flush turn the right margin flush off

The R. margin may be set all the way to the left, Type until it locks, press but don,t hold the margin release key, space to desired location, press the R. margin key.

The "2" spoke is either bent or broken. What you are seeing is the hammer face.

You may have the R. margin set at the point you think is a tab. Space all the way to the right, press R. margin key, hold the tab clear key and press carriage return key, all tabs should clear.

It sounds like the correction key is sticking down or you had a keyboard spill. Press the correction key and see if it comes up quickly. If not gently pry the key off look for debris or stick residue under it.

If the ribbon is just moving a little you may be in the overstrike ribbon mode try code period, comma or slash I can never remember which to get out of the mode if that dosen't do it try a new ribbon.

Go to the margin, press but DON'T HOLD mar rel key Space or backspace to desired location, press L. or R. mar key to set.

Doesn't sound good. Be sure the upper cover is fully closed, check for debris in the carrier area, give the silver shaft that the carrier rides on a shot of WD40, be sure the ribbon and L/O are properly installed and the print wheel dosen't have broken spokes.

Try some WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on and set the margins at the far ends.
