Since this requires opening the computer, you will need to be careful to remain grounded relative to the computer. (Use a ground strap or work carefully touching a metal surface of the case.) Sounds like a LAN card, you know internet, should have a port that looks like a phone line or RJ-45, which is a cable line for internet.Onboard and cards for a LAN, have these lights, the link is for internet activity.There is nothing needed in a PCI slot to run a PC, the only thing would be a graph card, and that is easy to tell because it has a graph plug or your monitor is plugged into it. But it is not slowing down the PC, or hurting anything.Do not touch it or remove it unless you power down, unplug the power, hit the power button twice and make sure the PC lights don't flash.Then touch metal just before you try and remove the card.

Use the green 3.5mm port on the sound card for speakers. The speakers usually daisy chain or merge on the sub woofer . It depends on how many speakers you have.

The new hard drive should be set to master drive, if not just make sure the jumper is in the master slot. A small diagram should be on the hard drive. Then make sure you connect the hard drive to the end ribbon cable connector.

This monitor may not have built-in speakers. It may have supported Gateway's monitor mounted sound bar. That sound bar connected to the 3.5 mm audio out on a computer and a DIN port on the monitor. The simplest solution is to connect your source to appropriate speakers. Depending on your audio setup, you could connect the video source to a receiver with HDMI IN and HDMI Out (ARC), computer speakers or an audio extractor. No you don't need a driver. These are very plain powered speakers that come with a mains adapter and a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack at both ends. Plug one in the speaker and the other into the headphone jack on the front or the speaker socket on the back which will either be a socket on the motherboard, or if your son put a sound card in the computer, it will be in a sound card. They deleted the Operating System by deleting their own stuff Docs, images, Saved Links etc. and also everything in Windows System probably in spite. You need to reload the operating system (Win 11) from fresh. Charge them from their final pay check, or ask IT to do it.

When I Google the model number the first thing that shows is Replacement LCD Screens for it which leads me to believe there is an issue with them. There is three parts to the display, the video card section, the exciter module and the screen itself. It needs correct diagnosis, or buy a new one now you have reset it clean, if that is what you mean by 'hard restart'? You might mean 'hard boot', power off and back on without proper shutdown. Thats a pretty old PC but still usable. You might have a bad video card or the heat sink has failed. Adding some thermal paste to the processors heatsink will probably fix this. If not, replace or add a video card. The video card can be found pretty cheap online.
