WHAT DOES "CHECK OP" MEAN? IT IS ON THE FACE OF MY

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this. Thank you for choosing FixYa to assist you with this question. You're receiving a message on your radio screen that says "Check Operation" and want to know how to clear it out. Whenever you see that "Check Operation" message on your radio, that means your radio has not received any activity (warnings or messages) for a number of days or weeks. This is something the radio does automatically. The message will clear off your screen when an alert has been announced or a Required Weekly Test (RWT) or Required Monthly Test (RMT) has been performed. I have a Midland WR-100 Weather Radio and it does the same thing. I get a Required Monthly Test on the last Wednesday of each month. After the test is completed, the message goes away. The National Weather Service conducts these test on Wednesdays starting at 10 a.m. Check your radio on Wednesday to see if you still see this message. The message should be gone around 6:00 PM or later. I hope this answers your question and thank you for choosing FixYa to answer your question. We hope you get the best user experience out this radio. Stay safe this Severe Weather Season, keep updated with your NOAA Weather Radio and have a good day, evening or night; whatever time of day you are reading this. Visit our website again the next time you need assistance with a problem or need a question answered.

Why does my weather radio

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this. You want to know why your weather radio just beeps and no voice or lights function properly. This has nothing to do with the codes you put in for your county. This has to do was the type of alert setting that is programmed into the radio. The alert setting that you have programmed into the radio is probably that TONE alert type. When this is selected, the alert will sound for 5 minutes or until any button is pressed except for the Weather/Snooze button. If you want your alert type settings changed, press MENU and use the up and down directional buttons until "ALT TYPE" is displayed on the screen. Use those same directional buttons to choose the alert type of your choice. If you choose DISPLAY, a text alert will scroll on your screen and no audio alert type will be sounded. If VOICE is selected, an alert will be sounded 8 seconds and you will hear the voice of the weather broadcaster for 5 minutes. These are the only other alert types you can choose other than TONE. Once you have chosen your alert type, press SELECT and and press MENU to exit. Remember that the NWS will only alert you if the storm meets their serve weather criteria (meaning the storm has to be able to cause a certain amount of damage or life threatening to "Wake someone up in the middle of the night"). With this radio functioning properly, it can really help you out in the long run by alerting you with the lastest information of what's going on in your area. Thank you for choosing FixYa as your one-stop solution spot for your problems and thank you for reading my solution.I hope this is the solution to your problem and it clears up any confusion you may have. Have a good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you're reading this.

Error

You have come to the right place at the right time to get this solution! I just had this problem not to long ago. First I research it online and pulled up this website (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lsx/?n=nwrfaq#FAQ9). They said that reading will come up because you haven't received a Routine Weekly Test (RWT), and that you should recheck the programming and monitor it next time to see if it is functioning properly. Lucky for me though, one of our area's news stations was hosting their "Weather Radio Wednesday" event at Walgreens. One of the news station's weathermen and some people that work for this civil emergency radio agency, were there to help program weather radios. I told one of the radio programmers the "check reception" problem and all he did was take the batteries out, put them back in the radio and check the programming information to make sure everything was okay. He said everything was fine, just make sure the antenna is extended out fully (which I had already knew that and had it near a window setting.) When I came out of the store, I looked at the LCD and "check reception" was not scrolling across the screen anymore. Maybe you should what this guy did and just monitor the radio for an RWT. They usually have these on Wednesdays at 11:00 am.

DROPPED MIDLAND WEATHER RADIO - NOT WORKING NOW

I will be honest with you, I haven't had any problems with this, but I will give you my opinion on what you should do. You can try to call tech support, but I do not think they are going to replace your radio because under their one year warranty, it says that they will repair or replace, at its option without charge, your radio if it fails due to a defect in material or workmanship within One Year following the initial consumer purchase. In other words, they are probably going to feel like this was your fault and your sole responsibility for the radio not working, not the radio itself. I will give you two possible solutions that you can try, but the only solution maybe to just get a new one. My first solution is to actually open the radio by unscrewing the bottom screws (the other two bottom screws are under the black grip-pads), and checking the circuit board and other contractions inside the radio to make sure everything is still intact. I've never tried this with the weather radio, but I did try it with a digital tire gauge I had bought. The tire gauge was not coming on when it was supposed to. I opened it up and played with some of the parts in it. I'm still not finished fixing it, but I did see that it was working better than it was before. Try playing with the parts in the radio and then put the radio back together and turn it on. If this does not work, than it's likely something that cannot be replaced and you will have to get another one. They have them at Wal-Mart for $29.99. I don't know if you are running your radio just on batteries or not, but if you are, maybe you should change the batteries. I hope this works out for you and remember, this is just a suggestion.

Go to this website-http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/CntyCov/nwrAL.htm. If you know what county you live in, find it on there and all of the info you need is right beside the county name. If you live in a county that has more than one transmitter, you will have to try all the frequency channels that are affiliated with that county. Whichever channel transmits the best, is the one that you need.
