I'm not familiar with this camera but, I would expect there to be an option in the menu to "factory reset" or words to that effect.

It sounds like the card is not formatted.Put the card in your PC, is there any data listed in explorer?While the card is out of the camera, switch the camera on to see if the "message" is still there.Try another card in your camera.

Is there an "undelete" option in the menu anywhere?If it is a fixed disk and there is no option to undelete, then I think it is a hard lesson learnt.If on the other hand, it is a removable disk, put it in your PC and search the web for an "undelete program", good luck.

Try a different cable, the one you're using may have got damaged.Check the firewire driver is installed and running on the Mac.If the camera came with software, try re-installing it.Good luck.

How old are the batteries?Try running them on the mains adaptor, if they work okay then it's possible the batteries are on their last legs.Good luck.

Does your Inspiron have a Firewire socket? (my Inspiron 1720 has a 4 pin F/wire), If so try a F/wire to F/wire lead instead of F/wire to USB.There are three sizes of F/wire socket, 4 pin, 6 pin and 9 pin which can be bought in any combination of the three.Good luck.

I'm sorry that the tape is not ejecting from the tray. I suggest that you reset the Camcorder and check the operation.

Please press the reset button behind the LCD panel using a sharp pointed object to reset it.

You can locate the RESET button from the below picture.

This seams to be a common fault with the hv20 and hv30 models ..and some say that it disappeared by itself after the camera was taken out of it case and left for to dry ..and the issue was from the presence of moisture ....but ...ones that sent the camera for repairing got it back without the sound (4 buzzes ) and the message ....repaired front barrier.. so ...either the guys from canon ..just wrote something to justify ..or the fault is indeed from the front barrier ...but the cause can be multiple ...(seams to be a weak point on those covers)
My advice is to let it open in a dry place ..to see if the drying out makes the sound go away ...and if it i snot ..send it for repair...(specially if it is in warranty )
About the price ...I can not tell you anything but that whatever you repair on manufacturer is not cheap ..cause it will include the shipping to and back costs...and the job done price ...better email them on the support site and see what they have to say about ..

Hi, It sounds like the part that reads the tape, and recognizes its a valid tape in there, is broken which would cause the whirring noise and would also cause it to eject (because it can't recognize if it's a valid tape). If you contact Canon they should be able to tell you the closest service center to you to have it repaired.
