Language set up
Thanks problem sorted found the menu button & the rest was easy, having trouble uploading pics now!!! oh to be a novice lol!
Language set
Press the Menu Button (middle on the back), go into 'setup'. Locate the 'language' option.
I know it'll all be in the wrong language, but the order will probably be the same as in the manual:

Can't see picture in frame when taking outside pictures
This is a problem with digital cameras with LCDs. You can make things
better by upping the brightness of the screen - this will consume more
power though.
Go into the menu (middle button at the back), into 'setup', and then look for 'LCD brightness'.
Screen not readable in bright sunlight.

Using self timer on my digital camera
1 In any Still mode, tap Settings to open the Settings
panel.
2 Tap Self-Timer/Burst repeatedly, until the desired
Self-timer icon appears at the bottom of the LCD:
10 seconds—A picture is taken after a 10-second
delay (so you have time to get into the scene).
2 seconds—A picture is taken after a 2-second
delay (for a steady, auto-shutter release on a
tripod).
2 shot—The first picture is taken after a 10-second
delay. A second picture is taken 8 seconds later.
3 Compose the scene. Press the Shutter button halfway, then completely down.
The camera takes the picture/pictures after the delay.
Can i email off the camera
the easiest way to download and email a photo from your camera is to use Picasa, free software from Google.
http://picasa.google.co.uk/
Once you plug in your camera or memory card, it's very easy to import images and there is a simple 'email' button to send the photos - it automatically resizes them for you so they're not too big
Cant download to desktop
there are 2 main ways to download photos from your digital camera too your desktop:
1. connect the camera to the desktop via USB cable, this cable is usually supplied with the camera or can be bought at an electrical store, connect the camera to the computer and turn it on, if your using windows OS a dialouge box or list should appear giving you a number of options, choose either "import photos using windows" or "view photos in folder" use the second one to choose which photos you wish to be uploaded and then copy and paste them manually into your own destination folder.
2. instead of connecting the camera to the desktop, take out the memory stick being used in the camera , (SD card) and either use an memory card reader(hardware that connects to desktop) or slot it into the memory card slot in the front or back of your desktop tower. once connected follow the same steps as above when the dialouge box appears.
hope this helps you out, it hard to explain without showing. :) good luck
Can't turn camera on
Well, you have charged it right? Yes, I know it can be difficult but let it charge for about a day if you already havn't. I have the same camera but have had no problems with it. Your camera may be defective. It could be either the battery or the camera. You might want to go ask a worker from the place you got it from if they know.
Sorry if this didn't help! But I hope it did!
Wrong language selected
I actually found the tools icon. And got the language switched back to English. So I did solve it myself. It just took some time.

try downloading GOOGLE PICASA 3 for your photos and see if it can pick up your camera. Ted10
Kodak Z981 -- mode dial issue
I have a Z981 myself. I just set my camera as you did (to "A") but did not experience the issue you mention?
Just to be clear, remember that setting the camera to "A" means "Aperture priority", meaning that you can control the lens aperture (with the "jog dial" on the top of the camera) and the camera will automatically set the shutter speed to create a proper exposure. "A" does NOT mean automatic exposure control. You must use "P" (Programmed) mode to make the camera make all the decisions about shutter speed and lens aperture.
I am including a web link to the User Guide for the Z981. You might want to revisit the Guide to make sure you are using the correct settings for your pictures.
BTW, I like my Z981 quite a bit, especially the zoom. I've taken some great pictures with it.
