Shooting, with a lens pointing to the sun is always risky for the camera. It could damage the sensor. But with a ND filter, perhaps this could. Then when you are shooting in automatic and just jpg, the camera will try to set the white balance, so the sun comes out bright white. It was the brightest spot in the frame. If you shot RAW you could be better off, because the camera did not change anything to the white balance in rte RAW picture. At least you would be able to restore the colour in a photo editor program like Lightroom or Photoshop RAW.
In extreem light conditions, never use the camera in auto. Only when the camera offers scene mode for that condition, you could use that.

That's because you are using auto focus. That system needs light to actually focus. When it's lacking enough light it uses the build in flash to create enough contrast to focus the objective.Solutions : - change to manual focus (mf) - mount a external flash: then a different method to focus is used - use a small pocket lamp (the light it produces fades away in the flash)

The first answer is from some one who obviously is not familiar with Olympus (and many other brands of DSLRs) or he would know that many lenses do not have manual focus scales to use. Olympus Standard Grade lenses do not include a focusing distance scale.
The more important issues for you are determining -
1) Are you trying to use "Live View" to focus?
If so you are using a less sensitive auto focus mode. One of the benefits of using a DSLR is that it can use more sensitive auto-focus systems than Point

The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

After contacting Olympus in hamburg, the problem was solved and installation of the new software (version 2.06) was possible.
There is - however - a bug when you choose the automatic update system. Don not do that and the program is running OK!
The advises from Olympus - Hamburg:
1. Download MSXML.msi from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3144b72b-b4f2-46da-b4b6-c5d7485f2b42&displaylang=en.
2. Run msxml.msi and choose Remove to uininstall msxml4.
3. Run msxml.msi a second time and install msxml4.
restart your PC and install the program

What camera?
Is it a pocket camera where the lens in internal? that would explain some of it.
Go into your menu and look up ISO and make sure its not set to anything above 400 if you are worried about digital grain or noise.
for the sharpest image you should have it set to the lowest speed setting.
hope that helps,
Caleb

Have you tried using Google to find out what the error code actually means ? Very often, the first step in defining and correcting an error is to find out what has caused it.
