Since CHDK changeset #917 the <Alt> button can be set to PRINT (default) or DISPLAY from the "Miscellaneous stuff" / "<ALT> mode button" CHDK menu- If DISPLAY is selected for <Alt> button: press DISPLAY quickly it will act as your <ALT> mode button, but if you hold it down for a second, it acts like the DISPLAY button normally does

Canon a590 always low battery with new battey
Don't use regular alkaline batteries (even though you can...) It's a pain to splurge for the more expensive lithium or photo-specific batteries, but they do last. I take A LOT of pictures with my A590, and can usually get several hundred shots out of a set of good batteries. Try Energizer's web site for a coupon, sometimes they have them available.

How do I download fromk my camera to my computer
Attach the camera and make sure the computer recognizes the camera if ti does not open a program to download them see below if it prompts you to make a choice as to what to do click open folder and copy and paste them into the computer. If it does not but does recognize the camera go to My computer or just computer where you can see the drives like C: and DVD drives look for the camera drive if you don't see it just click other drives until it opens the camera if it does not then its not recognizing it. If it opens click through each folder in it until you find the pictures copy them and paste them to your pictures folder on your computer.
