To resolve the issue, please try reseating the fixing assembly. To do so, please follow the instructions below:
1) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Caution: The fuser unit and surrounding area can become extremely hot during operation. Perform the following procedure after the fuser unit has cooled down completely. Touching the fuser unit when it is still hot may result in burns.

2) Turn the lock release levers located on the back of the machine in the direction of the arrow and release the lock.

3) Hold the grip on the fuser unit and remove it.

Caution: The fuser unit weighs approximately 3.3 lb (1.5 kg), and it is heavier on the back side. Be sure to hold the grip securely when carrying a fuser unit. Dropping the unit may result in personal injuries.

4) Hold the grip on the fuser unit and install it securely.

5) Lock the fuser unit by turning the two lock release levers in the direction of the arrow.

6) Connect the power cord and all interface cables.
7) Plug the power cord in the wall outlet to turn on the machine.

There are Many MF8180C out there...and they are a good machine...however they had a Manufacturing FAULT and that is the POOR Quality of one Small plug on the FUSER unit RU5-8125....The FEMALE PLUG in the BACK of this machine has faulty Female Pins that Can and DO get pushed back into the base of the PLUG when the fuser is removed and reinserted...
Initally People THINK that the Fuser is BURNT out...BUT

Put a Multimeter across the White leads leadinginto the Fuser and then onto the White lead going INTO the Thermostat on the RHS and you should get a Full Circuit indicating that the heating element is IN FACT still OK ! Then Put the Multimeter on the other end of the plug and TEST the THERMOSTAT with the multimeter in the OHMS setting..you should get a resistance reading....Then the Thermostat is OK also....

NOW Just Look at the PINS in the BACK of the PLUG for the FUSER...most likley one/or two are recessed back in the plug...they should all be even at the FRONT of the PLUG....

Get some tweesers and Pull the little Pins Back out...so they are all lined up....

you will need to keep them there so get a TINY amount of Sicaflex (silicone adhesive-heat resistant...) and Put that UNDER Yes UNDER the Base of the PIN !!! NO UNDER !!!!
if you put in the pin the contacts will not meet....you just need to put a MINUTE amount under this pin to hold it out there.....IF you mess this UP you will have to HARD wire the Fuser in and that is a whole other matter.....

Is it a white or black line?There can be a piece of paper in the drum cartridge or the drum is damaged!Scratched!Try replacing the drum cartridge!Good Luck!

Check the connector of the roller drive sensor.
Check the connector of the roller drive clutch.
Replace the main drive assembly (roller Drive

Replace the drum cartridge (roller drive cam).

Yes, it is likely a broken fuser. Probably fuser have overheated and either lamp, thermistor or both may have blown.

Let say that over 90% of the case the problem is fixed replacing fuser unit. In some case there is no power to fuser unit because a different problem has occurred.
The best thing to do is calling Canon service and asking a quote on repair. A technician will test voltage to fuser unit before replacement.

try to check your connection form your printer and if possible try reinstall the printer driver then try to run again the printer.

I have a Canon Color Image Class MF 8180C with a system error code E078 - Trying to understand what it means and how to clear. Any ideas?

If this was the case all the time, I would imagine you have an incorrect driver in the Laser Printer. You should be able to upgrade the drivers by contacting the the Canon Co.
If this is a new problem the static bar that runs across the drum has lost it's positive charge to produce the picture should be replaced ... its not cheap !
