Hello and welcome to
FixYa.
I would think in the following flowchart-like manner for such a problem:
Step1: Is the ink cartridge new? ---> If yes, then move on to
Step2.
'
-------> If no, then replace the black printer cartridge with a new one.
Step2: Is the ink cartridge an HP original brand? ---> If yes, then move on to
Step3.
'
---------------------> If no (only refillable) then replace with an HP brand.
Step3: Did you update the printer drivers lately or your windows in general? ---> If yes, then rollback changes, or re-install previous printer drivers, or latest printer drivers for your OS.
'
--------------------> If no, then please do the same for the printer drivers as this will fix the problem 90% of the time. You can also remove the printer from installed printers and re-install from scratch.
(With reference to
technical HP forum posts.)
Overall, this doesn't look like a technical fault of the printer, maybe something's changed in the configuration of it.
Or...
Start with the simplest solution: Just check if the black printer cartridge is properly in place.
Let me know if this was helpful at all.
