Air conditioner keeps freezing up.

Make sure your filter and coils are clean. You can also clean the fan blades, depending on how old it is, to increase airflow. A low refrigerant charge will also cause it to ice up.

Fan works but there's no

sounds like your start capacitor has gone bad. It will be located under the panel that the knobs are on usually front left or mounted on the case that holds the front coil if its a slide out model pull it out it will be located near the compressor its either silver or grey metal can style you may have two the larger one goes to the compressor if you have only one and its a 3 wire then you will have to replace it. They are usually only 5 to 15 dollars and can be picked up at any elect motor supply company or a place that rebuilds elect motors. good luck

Model GWHD5000, -5.000 BTU.

hello,

the problem of your air condition can be view from two point

1).power problem and(wire)
2).overload from the capacitor(thermostat power distributor)

what you are to do to solve either of the two problem of your air condition put of the system for some time that is disconnect the wire connected to the main power supply, after some time put on to see it respond solve but if this fail then it then mean that the thermostat will need to look in to

The way out to replace the thermostat unscrew the screws trace the wire down to the compressor it is black in color it look like a put the thermostat is connected to it but note this as you are tracing the wire down to the compressor then note if there is any form of wire or born wire if there is replace the loose or born wire but if non then you will need to replace the thermostat.

thank you and thanks for using fixya.

Not cooling looked at inside behind filter and it

Hi,

A frozen evaporator coil means one of two things, a lack of air flow or low refrigerant (freon).

Make sure the filter is clean and the coils are free of dust and dirt. If the unit blows good air (strong flow on high) when it first starts up and then freezes you are low on refrigerant and need to have it recharged.

I have a Goldstar GP120CE Portable with an error

If you have a goldstar GP120CE portable air conditioner with the E3 error and it's not under warranty you may be out of luck. When I called LG, (who owns Goldstar), they said these units are not cost effective to repair so finding a company to service them is difficult. If it were under warranty they would exchange it..

Hi. i have a gold

Hi, it's a compressor problem. Compressors are not user serviceable. It's either you need to refill the compressor or that you need to get a new one.
Take care

Hi.My gold star air conditioner

Hi, It could be any number of things. The most obvious would be that the system "sprung a leak" somewhere and all of your refrigerant leaked out, a dirty filter which needs to be changed or that the refrigerant in the compressor is finished.

Take care

It is freezing inside, and

Welcome to FixYa,
Check the Following
Is your filter clean? Look and the evaporator in the inside unit. Is it frosted up? Do you have condensation water in the pan? Go to the outside unit and feel the air coming out of the fan. Is it warm? Now feel the 2 copper pipes coming out of the unit. Is the small one warm or hot? Is the larger one cool ? Is there moisture on it?
Air conditioner runs but doesn't cool at all
If the airflow is good and the air coming out is not cold, your home air conditioning problem may be a temporary problem - your coils may have frozen. Turn the unit off for an hour to let them thaw, then try again. If cold air is now present, freezing coils were the problem; if the problem recurs soon after turning on, you may need to replace the coils. Again, call a pro. If you have ceiling vents in upstairs rooms and the air flowing from them is consistently warm, you probably have leaky or poorly insulated ductwork in your attic. See my Attic ceiling insulation page for more information on insulating ductwork that runs through attics.
Another likely home air conditioning problem if you have good airflow but no cooling is that thebreaker to the outside unit is shut off, which, depending on the installation, can either cause the air conditioning system to not run at all, or to appear to be running but not provide any cooling. If you can hear the compressor fan running outside, the breaker is on, but if the outside unit is silent the outside breaker may be off. If switching it on does not solve the problem, look for the high pressure cut outon the condenser and try resetting that.

I just sent a question

Hi,

If you can send the serial number I can try and estimate the age.

The unit does not require replenishment of the coolant unless there is a leak in the sealed system part of the unit.

The maintenance on the unit is to clean the filter which is located just behind the front grill. It will slide in between the front panel and coils that look like a radiator in front.

Every couple of years it should be washed. It should be done from the outside, you can look in the side louvers from the outside and look at the coils in the back, if they are dusty or dirty, you can spray them with a hose from the outside in.

Other than that there is no maintenance, if cooling is not adequate from that point some would need to look at it from a repair standpoint.

This is not an alarm state, It is a mode setting. Most air-conditioning units has a facility to dry out the air from its surroundings. Its is a easy way of bringing the humidity levels down without changing the temperature.

Water spewing from unit

If water is coming out the back, that's good. If it's going into the room, the unit needs tilted downward more on the outside. Minimum 3/4" from the window to the back end. Check to make sure the drain hole isn't plugged.

Our room air conditioner keeps dripping water when

Most window air conditioners require a slight til downward while in the window to allow the water to run to the back and rain outside. Try that and if that does not help unplug and slide the AC out of the cabinet there is a drain at the bottom of the evaporator. Try cleaning it out so water will flow freely outside. Breaker keeps tripping but it's not a faulty

Two possibilities:

1. There's a short circuit in your aircon unit, or overload.
2. Loose connection, maybe bolt screw or corroded splices joints.
