F8 is usually reserved for Windows Safe Mode. BIOS settings are usually found with by pressing ESC, Delete, or F2 on most system. Some times I run my finger along the entire row of function keys like a piano if it isn't specified which key works during boot up.

Battery Lifeline
Have you adjusted your power settings in your control panel? This is the only way to allocate how your laptop is using the battery power. Also, watching a DVD is going to take up a lot more energy then say surfing the internet.
Acer extensa 5620 laptop will not boot uo
Then you can check 2 things to see if the machine will boot. If not, then you'll need to get it repaired. FYI, I repair Acers.
Step 1 - remove the battery and the A/C adapter from the back of the computer for about 2 minutes. Replace the battery and the adapter and try to start the machine. If that doesn't work, go to step 2.
Step 2 - Check that the A/C adapter is getting power and the LED for battery charging on the front of the computer lights. You can check the voltage from the power supply with a volt meter, if you have one -- it should read around 18-19 volts. If either of these steps don't work, you'll need to get it looked at.
Problems could be with the power supply, motherboard, power switch, CPU or something else that only time and expertise could properly track down.

In the future, you can visit Acer's support website where they have all the drivers you could need for your system. Also, sometimes Windows Update will find these drivers as long as you select the custom or optional updates which often times contain updates to hardware software and drivers.

Product key wont work
If you are entering in the correct key from the COA label on the laptop and will not activate, you are allowed 3 free calls from one unique phone # to microsoft regarding this. They will ask you for your key over phone and will provide you and instruct you how to enter an alternative string of characters to activate windows. Just make sure you haven't entered in the letter O in place of the number 0 cuz they both look similar.
My acer extensa laptop was repaired by cityassure.
How about going back to the place that fixed it and demanding they give you the proper information required for activation. If this is not the original OS that was installed on there then they essentially did an unauthorized upgrade and should now have to fully activate the OS free of charge. Its a hefty charge for unauthorized work being done.

Does it say "operating system not found"?
Of so then I fear the easist fix would be to re-install windows using the discs that came with the laptop. Please bear in mind that this will completly wipe all information on the laptop, i.e e-mails, documents etc.
If this is not possible because you have data you need to keep then it may need more investigations.

Font size much too big on the screen
By "font", do you mean everything is large on the screen, including icons, and menus?
If so, your screen resolution might be set very low.
To increase the resolution (and subsequently decrease the size of everything displayed)...
Windows XP
1.) Right-click on the desktop and choose "properties".
2.)Choose the "Setitngs" tab.
3.)Slide the "Screen Resolution" slider towards "more"(the right) and click "Apply"
4.)Your screen will flicker and test the new resolution. If you like what you see, Click "Ok". If you do not, or your screen remains black, you can wait 15 seconds, and your screen will revert to it's previous resolution.
Windows Vista
1.) Right-click on the desktop and choose "Personalize".
2.)Choose the "Display Settings"
3.)Slide the "Resolution" slider towards "high"(the right) and click "Apply"
4.)Your screen will flicker and test the new resolution. If you like
what you see, Click "Ok". If you do not, or your screen remains black,
you can wait 15 seconds, and your screen will revert to it's previous
resolution.
Hope this helps.
