HP LaserJet P1006 is still supported. It can run In Windows 98 though Windows 10. In my answer, I would recommend downloading the Basic Driver. The basic driver allows you to print, manage and doesn't allow anything else to install with it.

This may help. Before you disconnected the USB cable did you "disconnect" it using the icon in the system tray? If you did not, try cycling power to the computer with no USB cable for the printer connected. Sometimes when you unplug a USB cable while it is still "connected" to the device your computer will lose track of that USB port. I hope this helps you.

you are installing the drivers may be not correct. u remove the printer driver and install the proper driver again otherwise it may be spooler problem then u have to reinstall the os and configure printer dirver
