There's an option under your print setting for color or black and white. When you select to print a window will pop up. make sure that you have the color print selected. Hope this helps

I had the same problem. It was solved once I bought an original color cartridge. Refilled cartridge seems not to work on this printer. Glad if it might help.

HP Deskjet F4200 Series All-in-One Printers Protection Fault Problem

A lot of HP Deskjet F4200 Series All-in-One printer users complain about the installation problem experienced with this product, especially those using the Windows XP operating system. The driver installs perfectly; it performs the alignment and prints the test page. But as soon as you print a document, photo, or anything from the computer, the printer fails and says "The program has encountered a problem and needs to close". When you go to the printer properties, you'll get a message: Function address 0x500a0490 caused a protection fault. (Exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.

The problem can be resolved by completely uninstalling the driver and installing it again. When the installation is complete, click the START button on the lower left corner of your screen then on the right pane, click 'Printers and Faxes'.

Under the printer tasks, click 'Add a printer' then click Next on the Add Printer Wizard dialog box. Select 'Local printer attached to this computer' and uncheck 'Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer' then click Next. Click 'Use the following port' and select LPT1: (Recommended printer port) then click Next.

Select HP under the Manufacturer list and under the Printer list, select hp deskjet 990c then click Next. Select 'Keep existing driver (recommended)'; click Next, name your printer, select Yes to set your printer as the default printer then click Next. Select Yes to print a test page, click Next then Finish to complete the setup. Click OK when a dialog box appears.

Go back to the 'Printer and Faxes' folder and right-click on the name of your printer. Select Properties and click Ports/Connections then check 'USB...Virtual printer for.....hp deskjet 990c'. Click Apply then OK and you should now be able to use your HP Deskjet F4200 Series All-in-One printer.

you are not suppose to clean the sensor ribbon with water... it might damage the printer...
however what you can do is you can clean it with a lint free cloth which should be dry..
connect the printer directly to the wall outlet...
what you can do is unplug the printer from the back of the printer without turning the product off... then press and hold the power button for 30 sec... and then re plug it back in... check if that helps...
if it does not work please contact hp...

It'll not scan as PDF instead you need to save the image as PDF or change the settings to save to PDF by default
Follow instructions to change the default settings using the manuals:

No, it cannot. I tested it on an HP DeskJet F2430. The HP56
will not fit in the HP60 carrier.
