I will be the barer of bad news. your Panel is failing. Plasma TVs are only made to last 5-7 years. 10-12 is more realistic from what I have seen. The TH46pz85u is a great model of TV but when that starts happening it means the panel is beginning to fail. Replacing the panel is cost prohibitive and they don't even make them anymore. You will be wise to spend your money on a new TV. newer TV's are much more power efficient as well. your 46" TV draws a lot of electricity. Your TV draws almost 650Watts of power. A comparably sized TV today(55" or larger) Draws around 200 watts. Significantly less.

I have a Panasonic th-46pz85u. It's been working fine, but now all the hdmi ports have quit working, but the component inputs work fine.

Contact the authorized service center for Panasonic. Please do not make any experiments. The fault is simple now; do not make it irreparable. Surely you can't repair this fault. Gopakumar Gopalan Google

Red light blinks 10 times. Tv does't turn on

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm51C_RDIZE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l0AUj8QUkg&NR=1&feature=fvwp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7b_nTaZYcU&feature=related

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.

This is rapidly becoming a known issue on the viera series.

Power light blinks 2 times,

This is a common problem an a failry easy DIY fix.

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Hi,

You either set the options incorrectly when running the "First Time Setup" or you skipped the first time setup entirely. Even though the cable works with your older TV, you still need to setup your new TV correctly to receive the cable feed.

The quickest way to do this is run the setup manually from the menu as follows:

1. Turn the TV on
2. Press the "MENU" button on the remote
3. Use the DOWN arrow key to highlight "SETUP" (the arrows are the big ring button around "OK")
4. Press "OK" to enter the SETUP MENU
5. Use the DOWN arrow key to highlight "PROGRAM CHANNEL"
6. Press "OK" to enter the PROGRAM CHANNEL MENU
7. Use the LEFT/RIGHT arrow key to ensure "CABLE" is highlighted
9. Use the DOWN arrow key to highlight "AUTO"
10. Press "OK" to enter the AUTO SCAN MENU
11. Highlight "ALL CHANNELS" using the UP/DOWN arrows
12. Press "OK" to start the AUTO SCAN

The scan may take several minutes to complete.

13. Highlight "APPLY" using the the LEFT/RIGHT arrow keys.
14. Press "OK" - all of the scanned channels will now be saved.

The TV should now return to viewing mode and you should be able to watch cable on your new TV. If the TV does not automatically exit the menu, simply press the "EXIT" key on the remote, next to the MENU button.

Please run through the above steps and if you are still unable to get the cable channels on your new TV, please post back for further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric

I actually have a Panasonic Model# TH-46PZ800U

I do not know if this helps or not but here is a sight where you can purchase the Service Manual
http://www.free-service-manuals.com/Television/Panasonic_Televisions/Panasonic_TH-46PZ800U_Service_Manual_L76993/

I do believe its like $5 to be a member of that sight to get that manual but I cannot warranty that. Now if its just the speaker be replaced all you need to do is power down the tv, unscrew the back the speakers are located on the Basel of the set.

There is not really much to replacing the speakers but if you need a in depth service guide I would direct you to the link above for its purchase.

A work around would be a nice little Home theater system you can pick up from Wal Mart, or any electronic store they start at $79 bucks respectively.

Most people would like better sound then whats actully being produced inside a TV cabinet.

Thanks for using Fixya.com

That code signals a failure in the high tension modules - since the power source was new then the only other board that uses those tensions - the Y-sus one - is defective. The good part is that now you know for sure what's the faulty board, the bad part now is that it might have fried even the new power board so before ordering new boards you should test them by measuring the voltages - the correct ones are on a sticker on the plasma panel.
