I just want to record

Hello, I have a different brand DVD recorder but the principle should be the same. Yes you should technically be able to record regular TV by burning it to a DVD. (different models uses DVD-R or +R) There are some rules and regulations about it due to copy infringement laws. Still if you call the technical support for this machine, they should help you with it.
In the mean time, here is what I had to do. I had to connect the machine to my TV, then connect the cable to the machine. Use HDMI cords otherwise the picture quality will be low. This is as simple as I can explain it. I hope that helps.
Good luck :)

Dvd crashes in the middle of the movies

You might want to try cleaning the unit with a DVD cleaning kit

rulds2008_2.jpg
You can purchase this HERE

Now after running that a few times in the player be sure to check you DVD's for any scratches, You will be surprised any type of scratch or dirty disc can make these players artifact/crash.

Now worse comes to worse you might have a bad lens/laser in the unit but if the unit is playing over half the movie chances are it just might be dirty.

Thanks for using Fxya.com I hope you do find this Very Helpful.

I am trying to record with VHS from TV and not

This unit doesn't have a tuner. So unless your TV can provide video out (not a common feature) to the dvd/vcr recorder, you need a tuner. A set-top tuner box for OTA would work. With a little work, you could also use a tuner (USB or PCI slot card) in a computer. Usually you need a converter box unless your video card can output in a non-RGB format. The manual for this device is available here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/DVD-VR375 .

I wish that I could be of more help.

DVD-VR375 crashed during firmware upgrade

Hi

If unit crashes while doing firmware upgrade you risk having a major problem. Try disconnecting power cable and connect back.
If it works restart the upgrade.
Try starting the unit with the upgrade CD inside (was a disk upgrade?).

The best solution is calling Samsung support and performing any of the operation under their direct control. This will protect your warranty validitty.

Call Samsung at the number listed on the manual and try performing operations above under their direct supervision.
If it is not possible to restart the firmware update, and the unit does not start, then the recorder must be sent to Samsung.

Usually it is possible to restart and complete the firmware update.

Dvd tray will come out to put the dvd in to play

If you meant the door wont close then it canbe that the drive is faulty , might have mechanical prroblems with the drive, might have a faulty motor drive IC with the reverse section not working.
remove and checck the mechanism first before check board, a possible connecctor link faulty or a dry soldered IC can be the fault.

I have a samsung dvd recorder, whats the proper

How you connect it depends on your system. You need to connect the video out of the recorder to the TV. If you want to record programs, you need to connect the cable box to the recorder's video in. (The unit doesn't have a tuner if you have the unit listed above.)

Place the IR Blaster near the set-top box IR receiver. Connect the RF cable from the wall to your set-top box and then another RF cable from the set-top box to the TV (not to the DVD recorder). Connect a composite A/V cable from the set-top box A/V (composite) out to the DVD recorder's A/V in (AV1) port. (Composite video is a three wire cable - the plugs are yellow (video) and red/white (R/L audio).)

Next you need to connect the unit to the TV. Depending on the TV, you can use an HDMI cable (best results), component video or another composite video cable (labeled AV2 AV out). If you use component video, you'll need a separate cable to carry the audio. (Component video cables have 3 RCA jacks on each end (red, blue and green). The audio cable has the red and white plugs.

You will only get a 480 (SD) signal output if you use anything other than the HDMI cable. (The progressive scan feature is not compatible with all TVs; see the manual for details.)

You can obtain the manual from http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_mdl_name=DVD-VR375 .

I hope this helps.

(you have an additional A/V IN connection as well as a DV In port on the front of the unit)
