Possibly what you are trying to connect to does not support multi point connection. Give me the whole senario (all devices involved).

There must be some fault with the pin you inserting. adjust the pin and see whether u get signal in both sides.
orelse chnage the audio settings of the audio u play.. like if it is in stereo change it into mono,left or right.
if it is not working change the headphone. it is a faulty one.
