Hello and thatnx for using Fixya !
The issue is with the player ...if the power went off during the update and the process was not completed ..this is the issue you have to deal with ...The procedure is to reset the mp3 player back to the factory settings using the reset button ...or by removing the power source...Most of them have a hidden button in a hole ..somewhere on a side...and needs to be pressed with a sharp object in order to reset itself ..Aftyer that reinstall the driver software if it has something like that ..and try again ...Usually it should be seen after this operation ...but in case it still makes troubles...just reinstall the computer too...
I have go gogear 4gb
MP3 players use the popular USB connection which sometimes produces errors while connecting. These messages are similar to the "Device Not Recognized" error received with various USB devices. Fixing an MP3 player is sometimes specific to the brand, but they are so similar that most can be fixed the same troubleshooting steps.
Instructions
Device Manager
Click "Start" and go to "Control Panel." Double-click "System" and locate the Hardware tab to find the Device Manager. Vista and Windows 7 users can just type "Device Manager' from the start menu.
Locate "Disk Drives" from the list and double-click "Portable Device." If there is an exclamation mark or other error on the device, go to the "Drivers" tab.
Click "Uninstall" and remove the player. Restart the computer and attach the player reinstall the drivers.
Anti-virus conflicts
Plug the player into a different computer to see if it gets recognized. If it does not, contact the manufacturer to find out if it is broken.
Turn off your anti-virus program on your PC if the device works on other computers. Reinstall the drivers using the device manager as described in section 1.
Plug in the player to confirm the connection.
Other solutions
Check the battery level and make sure the batter is not low or depleted. A low battery will sometimes prevent the player from connecting. Let it charge from the power cord, if necessary.
Verify that you have at least Service Pack 1 installed. Go to the Start menu and type "Run." Press Enter.
Type "Winver" in the box and press "Enter." The Windows version will be displayed along with any installed service packs. Download a service pack from Microsoft, if applicable.
Remove the player from the USB port and push a pin into the reset hole located on the bottom. Reconnect to see if the problem is resolved.
Check the connection to make sure it's secure. The cable should fit firmly into both the player and the computer. Connect to a different USB port if you have one available.
Download updated firmware or use the MP3 Recovery Tool provided under Resources (for mp3 players).
Tips & Warnings
A bad cable will sometimes prevent a good connection. Use a different one to isolate the cause.

Hello
Have you tried using another USB port? Did you reset the player? Just make sure the hold/lock is not engaged. If nothing works then try downloading the latest version of the Philips Device Manager.
You can also try removing the unit and trying to charge the battery connecting it to a suitable DC power supply for a couple of hours.
I would suggest to hold the play/pause button, then hold the switch on button for a moment. Ideally it should boot into recovery mode. Now click the "Clean Up", and then "Reboot". If that fails, try to reload the firmware again.
Hi. I have a Philips SA5285 8GB mp3 player 3
You can reset your player by gently inserting a pen tip or other sharp object into the RESET hole on the side of your player. After pressing the reset button, power on the player. If the player is still unresponsive, charge your player for a minimum of 30 minutes before reattempting a hard reset and then power on the player.
NOTE: If a removable battery is used for your player, just remove the battery from the compartment and then insert it again.
Step 2. Upgrade the player
If the resetting does not work, connect your player to the PC and perform Upgrade function by using Device Manager. To download the Device Manager, you can visit Software & drivers section at >> www.p4c.philips.com >
Here is a manual >>
