Yamaha HTR-6140 Receiver Questions & Answers
Optical audio from cable box to receiver
Do you mean the optical digital audio output from the cable box? This is so you can listen to Digital sound from cable tv broadcast, First go to the cable box remote control, select setup or menu to find audio, then select audio output, check digital audio, not mts or stereo, this should enable to optical output instead of the typical 2 channel red and white left and right RCA analog audio outputs, sometimes different cable boxes vary, but most require you to enable the optical output via the method listed above.
Can't set TV code on Yamaha rav293 remote
i had the same problem with the same remote but just figured it out. on the remote, to the left of the "DOCK" button, you'll see two buttons labeled "[A]" and [B] which is what you'll use as the TV source button. press the code set button, wait for it to blink two times, then press the [A] button, and press your code. VOILA! problem solved. you could also use the [B] button, but it doesn't really matter. now the tv controls work on the remote. you may have to go through all the codes for your manufacturer but eventually it should work
We are trying to hook
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, postback with the brand and model number of the HDTV.
Offhand, how is the Yamaha connected to the TV? From the Wii connections, have you tried:
- yellow to VIDEO yellow jack (VIDEO AUX) on the front panel of the Yamaha;
- similarly, the white & red to L AUDIO R;
- select V-AUX as the input source.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Happy Holidays
6140 will not complete the AUTO SETUP
If you would like to bypass the auto setup which is apparently the root cause, use a test cd/dvd for your test tones. The auto setup while convenient is not the optimal way to get the best result as the test tones it uses are bandwidth limited pink noise. If you would like to use the auto calibrate however, it's likely needing repair to do so.
I recently purchased a yamaha YST-FSW100 subwoofer
Turn the sub on, then touch the end of the sub lead when you take it out of the back of the amp..it should buzz to show the sub is ok . If the sub is ok then go through the setup on the Yamaha and tell it there is a sub connected in the speaker setup.
We have audio, but no
Since it's both the TV and DVD have you checked the output jack?
If it's the HDMI connection (HDMI Out), you have to make sure it's plugged in securely. If your using the component cables, they can mess up video if connected wrong (make sure you have green to green, red to red and blue to blue). Is your TV receiving a signal at all? If you hear audio of what your trying to watch, I am guessin you have the correct video source as well.
Which connections are you using?
I need a remote control
try this code...... 30176 or 0176 or 31176 or 1176..... depending upon how may charactedres need to be put in
codes for Discrete ON- 248 or 00248 and
Discrete OFF- 246 or 00246
To program it in permanently, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX (or whatever device mode you have the Yamaha set to)
2. Press and hold SETUP
3. Type 9 9 4
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type 0 0 2 4 8
6. Press and release POWER
The remote should blink twice.
That should set the POWER to power on. Since it seems like your Yamaha
device does not have power toggle, you'll have to set another button to
POWER OFF to another key. A good one is SHIFT-POWER. Follow the same
procedure as above but use 00246 for step 5, press SETUP between step 5
and 6. Now power off is accessed by pressing and releasing SETUP and
then pressing POWER.
Device code 1276 is also worth a shot. HERE are all the yamaha advanced codes. And HERE's how to assign them to buttons.
You can try key moving the AUX volume keys to CBL mode.
Press and hold SETUP until the mode key blinks twice.
Enter 9 9 4
Press AUX
Press Vol+
Press CBL
Press Vol+
The mode key should blink twice.
Repeat the above steps for Vol- and Mute.
if i ve been of help... kiindly rate my service.... good luck
Loose sound when changing channels
If your using HDMI. The HDMI technology in version 1.1 & 1.2 was riddled with problems. Check your owners manual for version.Or, try the Coaxial Digital or optical output from your sat receiver to your Yamaha receiver, go into "GUI" "Menu" not sure which on the HTR series and Lock the audio input to Coaxial or Optical on CBL/SAT. Then Test. If it still has issues, check the settings for Audio on the SAT receiver and make sure they are correct. If you still have a problem, use a standard RCA from the sat receiver to the Yamaha. At this point audio should be rock solid on analog. Look on the back of your DSS receiver for the model # & write it down. Then go into the units menu "SAT" and check it's firmware version for version and date. It may need an update. Go to your Sat's website, Directv or Dishnetwork and go to support, enter model # and look for any updates that may apply. Hope this helps
The HDMI "input" ports damage output ports of connecting devices
i know this sounds stupid, but have you "toggled" or "played" with the HDMI cables? are they the same manufacturer? HDMI channel connections are very fickle. If just one connection is not exactly correct, they go to a limp, no go status. Since they run at such a minimal voltage, i can't see them "blowing" the outputs on the devices.however....if your cable has a serial type output for video only, I would connect the hdmi convertor to it and see if it works.
