I take itypu are talking about the elastic bands for the isolation of the mic. You should be able to find some on eBay or by contacting the manufacturer. Some parts houses carry those items as well. B&H Photo would be a likely one.

The user manual says Phantom Powered Mic input which means you should be able to use a condenser microphone requireing Phantom Power.

If you are good at doing such things yes, but the parts inside are very delicate and must be handled gently as not to damage them. If you are not comfortable doing it then I would suggest taking it to a local music store where similar items are sold to see if they can do it for you.

is the mic equiped with a IMPEDANCE selector switch?? is the USB port version 1.x, 2.x or 3.x?? what are the SPEC'S of the computer and the mic???

The MXL 990 is an externally polarized condenser microphone. You will nee to provide 48v Phantom power to use it. Alternatively there is a USB version, the MXL 990 USB which gets it['s power from the USB port.

perhaps there is agrounding issue or the impedance matching is not set properly for this type of condenser mic

These are really cheap mics! I have two dozen of them because what I do requires the mic to be expendable. The capsule is pretty fragile and just a little drop or hit to the mic can drastically alter the frequency response and output level. If you record with it and it has a hollow sound I would bet this is what happened. If you can generate white or pink noise out of your system, then record it. Just hold the mic in front of the speaker. Play it back and compare the tone of the recording to what you just heard. Hollow? There you are!

It could be any of a number of issues, but when you say "plugged into the amp", this is a condenser mic which requires power from a power supply or phantom power from a mixer. If your plugging it directly into an amplifier, it defiantly won't work.

Your mic may be sensitive but its gain is set in the mixer or computer to which it's connected. I don't know what you mean by "too much air" but if you mean "room sound" there shouldn't be much in a closet unless it has all hard sound reflecting walls. You will need to provide a better description of the problem.

Failing more obvious things like a dodgy cable, condenser mics need phantom power 48v. Perhaps the phantom is cutting out?

If this is a condenser micrphone it will require Phantom Power from the mixer you are trying to use it with. If Phantom Power is provided, check the cable to ensure proper wiring.

F rom what I see in the user manual no, only a dynamic mic can be used with this unit. A comdenser mic will not be powered.

Has it a remove able cover or on the plug? Normally it has the word "Electret condenser" on the body. Is it a lapel type ? Modern units are invariably of this type.
