Hi robin,
Hope you are well. I participate in the FIXYA forum to help people, and it makes me smile when when I can help folks avoid costly repairs. I don't get paid, (yet) :-) despite the fact the fact I am rated as expert/guru. Anyway.... I dont have good news. Your copier (as all do) has an assemby called a fixing unit/fusing unit. This is an area that by heat and pressure "bonds" the toner to the paper. Because of the extreme heat, all copiers monitor this assembly closely. Your error code means that the copier cannot accurately determine the speed of the fixing assmbly. Which would be like letting an iron rest in one spot rather than moving back and forth across the clothes. The fixing assembly must be replaced. The part # is FM3-3651-000. The first problem is that Canon wont sell parts like this to the general public. Then of course comes, who has the ability to replace it, as it is not really an intuitive repair. It could be done by a layperson, but....... I am so very sorry than I could not "FIXYA" but I hope I have given you enough info that you you won't be in the dark when and if you decide to seek professional help. All dealers have different rates for labor and parts markup. My company charges $150 an hour. The part is about $100. $250 sounds like the ball park. Please be kind enough to provide as favorable review to my time and help as you can when you report to "FIXYA". I wish you the best. SPINAL

Hello gn,
E003 means that the "fixing assembly"(which uses high heat and pressure to bond the toner to the paper) reached a satisfactory temp for a moment but as the copier briefly turns on the main drive to turn all the rollers and distributes the heat the copier sensed that the temperature(which is VERY CLOSELY monitored to avoid disaster) suddenly was too low. A percieved drastic change in temperature tells the Main Controller to turn off all heat and gives this error code. Usually this means the fixing assembly needs to be replaced since the heater and sensors reside there. There is the possibility that the Main Controller has decided to misinterpret these readings, which can happen. Lets hope not. Most likey the fixing assembly needs to be replaced. I'm sure there are untrained people that could this, but I have not met them.I have the service manual and was impressed that such a small copier could have such a complex replacement procedure and I have been doing this for 23 yrs. You need a tech in my opinion. The part number is FM2-9045-000. My best guess is that u could by it for around 100 bucks. I do believe I have answered you question above an beyond your requested info. If I had a long enuff screwdriver I would stick it thru the screen and help further. Please let "FIXYA" knowI answered your questiun. Good luck and be well. :-) spinal

This error has to do with the Fixing film sensor detecting a problem with the Fixing Film. Replace the fixing film and it should be working again.

Here is a link to the Fixing Film Assembly:

If you open the front cover and release the leaver of the drum unit.Remove the drum unit.On the drum itself is a plastic plug, remove the plastic plug and remove the waste toner in to a bin.The waste toner is stored behind the drum and must be removed reguarly.

DO U HAVE A PAPER IN THE THE ADF .if yes then remove that .if it still blinks then u have to check the sensor in the adf. if that is ok then check the sensor below the adf that is on the left rear end of the machine which is pressed by adf when closed.

did you press the scann button on the copier?

If not press scann button and then try to ping it.

Hope that helps!

That error is pin pointing to the laser (camera) start by knowing how it came about it could be that you where removig some paper jam and you did not insert back the drum catridge properly therefore no connection between the drum and the laser unit you find that the machine gets ready and you place the copy start but it can not copy. just check the laser unit it might be dirty blow it.

Does the copier reports that you need to change paper size? If yes under printer properties set eg A4 as custom.
Check under printer progress window is it set to use printer offline.
Under cmd type ipconfig and compare subnet and gateway with your copier.

If nothing of this send more specific what didi you try to do.

the problem is regarding fixing film assembly. Either the film is broken or the white spot on the edge of the film is dirty. Try cleaning the white spot using a cloth whipped with water. Too much water content not allowed. Inspect the edges of the film. It may have worn out due to wear and tear. If that is the case try to move the film to the edge on the side where the film is having a white rectangular spot & fix the assembly. May solve the issue for the time being. But ultimately you willhave replace the film unit
