OK i read your report. when this happens again adjust the valve until you don't hear the blow torch noise. Because you could have had your valve open to far and that would make that noise. Try that and let me know.Thank you for writing to fix ya.

If it's a direct spark ignition type heater maybe that's how it's designed to.work .When called for heat pilot open allowing gas then ignitor spark and ignite the pilot then gas valve open and allow gas through burner then unit fires off .
Once temp is met pilot valve closes and pilot out .

Try cleaning the gas tube with a pipe cleaner and insure the flame is in contact with the thermo coupling.

I have same model, went to all parts.com and ordered pilot assembly for 105$ , has all in one kit. Part # 108084-02 easy instal Good luck

Logs are likely not placed properly on the burner. Option two is if they are a vented gas log soot is normal, but only on vented sets. Unvented Logs will be soot free. Soot is a sure sign of Carbon Monoxide. Install a detector if you do not have one.
