When you first switch on your device, you have to answer a few questions to set up the device. When these questions appear in the wrong language, it's best to soft-reset your device.

Devices which are reset by holding the On/Off button:
Press the On/Off button and keep holding it until you hear the TomTom start sound. This takes at least 15 seconds. Also keep holding down the On/Off button if your device switches off or shows the start-up screen.

Devices which are reset using a paper clip or pen:
Press the reset button using a paper clip or something similar for 15 seconds. Then press the On/Off button for at least 5 seconds.

If your tom tom is in a wrong language, to set it back or change it to the normal language, all you need to do is to reset it. To reset it, hold down the power on/off button for about 15 seconds, it will restart the tom tom, that way the language will be restored back to its normal language.
If you are not requesting to change the language back to its normal language, then to change the language to any other foreign language, what you have to do is to go to the gps settings, then you select from the options where you find language, then you select your choice language, that way your language will be changed.

That should do the job for you.

I would try charging it up for 2-3 hrs. first and then try turning it on again. Make sure the charging light is on. If that does not work the internal battery might have to be replaced.

You might be getting it wrong, the best thing to do is still to reset the device. follow these procedure to reset your tom tom gps.
Make sure your battery is charged before you begin. TomTom suggested allowing your device to charge for at least 2 hours before resetting it. Remove your device's SD card from the card slot.
Find the "Reset" pinhole button on the bottom of the device.
Hold the "Reset" button down for 10 to 15 seconds or until your device resets itself. You will need a flattened paperclip or another small metal object to reach inside the pinhole.
Power the TomTom back on and insert your SD Card. You have now reset your TomTom gps and this should fix the freezing and the screen problem.

If the mechanical lever is still working to make the cup ****, I would sujest you first clean the cup and the windscreen and then what I do with mine is lick the cup before sticking it on the screen. Works every time for me in the works van and my car.

no they are not free, average cost about $80.00, u can buy the cd (avail through retail outlets that sell this GPS) and do a update with that or u can buy the updates from Tomtom directly at there web site

If it went completely flat it needs somne recovery time to get a decent charge in the battery to start up.

If after a few hours it hasn't started up then change the battery for a new one as that one has died.

I recommend you to reset your GPS to solve this problem .

To reset your GPS , try this please :

1:Charge your TomTom for at least 2 hours to avoid any issues upon resetting.

2:Locate the "Power" button at the top right of the device. The Power button is on the top right-hand corner of each device, just as the one shown in the picture.

3:Hold down the "Power" button until the device resets. TomTom warns that this reset process can take more than 15 seconds to complete.

4:Release the "Power" button once the device resets. Your unit is now reset.

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO RATE !

Have you tried the reset button?
Check the bottom of the GPS. There hsould be a small hole labeled "reset". Press it for about 7 seconds with the tip of a paper clip. Plug the GPS to the charger and turn it on.

You should be able to adjust the volume usind this method.

With the unit turned on and displaying the map, tap the bottom left side of the screen.

A sliding bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can now adjust the volume to your desired level.

The volume menu is also available by tapping and entering 'Preferences menu'. You can also set the volume from here if you wish.

Install ToTom Home on your PC, it is free on tomtom homepage,and connect the gps on it. Through Tomtom home you will be able to install voices, cars, lots of funny stuffs

Mine is only working by pressing ON/OFF button more than 15 seg. Sometimes I need to repeat this procedure several times to get it working. Antonio Cesar

I am enclosing a few screen captures to help you find your way. It is not taken from your device's manual, but it should help.

Language


Tap the Change preference icon. It is the one with the blue wrench to the left of thae orange arrow on the top picture. Once you are in change preferences, use the right arrow to explore the options. Find the icon that is shown on the next picture (the Flags). Use the Up and down arrows that will show to the right of the list of languages to select the language you want.

probably the best way is to reset the unit and start again i think it asks that question when you turn it back on

go into settings and look for the flags that is the language settings
