It may either need a screen reset, or a cpu reset.
To reset the screen, Push the upper left hand corner of the screen (under the pwer slide-switch), while you toggle the power switch on AND HOLD THAT SPOT FOR MORE THAN 15 seconds, or until you see a display that says to Calibrate the Screen.
If you get there, there will be a black dot to touch (with the back of a pen) accurately...in different locations of the screen. This determines how it will react to your touches when operating.
(I did not know about this, and just used my finger to touch the dots. Well I could not see other pages later, and I thought the unit is broken).
Then shut it off, and reboot. The Garmin comes on with black background...loads the software...then the warning notice-Agree- to press.
If you cannot get either of these, your unit is not loading its software.
If your unit has a "Reset Button on the bottom of the unit" . Do not use sharp pointed objects.
If no Reset Button... lastly, Slide and HOLD On/Off switch to the left FOR 8-10 seconds.
Wait a bit, and try switching on again. All this is per their web site User Manual for the 200series.

If it is only a year old it should be covered by a 2 year warranty in europe (not sure about usa).

im sure this is not the answer your looking for, but If you have a Garmin Lock on your nuvi, zumo or StreetPilot c5xx and you have forgotten your 4 digit PIN number you can unlock the device by returning to your Security Location. The Security Location is the location that you set when you first enabled the Garmin Lock on your device. Returning to the Security Location will unlock your device.

If you have forgotten your PIN and Security Location please contact Product Support for assistance. Please note we will require a copy of the receipt and there will be a charge to unlock the device as this issue is not covered by the warranty.

1. To get a NZ map for your satnav;

• Connect your satnav to your computer with the mini USB lead.

• Go to www.garmin.com and if you've registered your satnav click on the myGarmin tab at the top of the screen and log in using your username and password. If you haven't registered follow the instructions in para 2 below to register and then come back to here to continue.
• When you're logged in click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen. There you'll see the map that's on your satnav
• On the left side of the screen click on "Shop for more maps"
• Click on "View additional maps for this product"
• Browse down to "City Navigator Australia and NZ" and click it.
• Follow the prompts to buy and download the map

2. To register your satnav, if you haven't already done so;

• Connect your satnav to your computer with the mini USB lead
• Go to www.garmin.com and select your country from the drop-down menu
• Click on the myGarmin tab at the top of the screen
• Click on "Register your garmin product"
• Click on "Automotive" and follow the prompts.

You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them again if you need to update your maps.

Unfortunately you need the wire unless it has wifi capabilities. Garmin says you must get the wire from them but I have heard of others doing this with a generic/aftermarket cable for just a fraction of the cost.

From the screen with the Magnifying Glass and the Map follow these steps EXACTLY:
1. Click on the spanner (bottom right)
2. Again click on the spanner (top left)
3. Click on the lips (bottom middle)
4. Click on the top right button
5. Click the bottom purple button
6. Click the UP arrow until you find English (British or American)
7. Select the English language you prefer
8. Now click OK

You have 2 options when updating, to get a one off update or a lifetime update. (i.e. the lifetime of your satnav rather than your life)
The one off update will cost approx £50.00 or the lifetime update will cost approximately £75.00
If you can afford it the lifetime update is well worth paying the extra for as there are 4 updates every year and it keeps you up to date. Also sometimes when maps get too out of date it causes problems for the satnav and it stops working so it's cheaper in the long run to have the lifetime update.

Have you already tried the webupdater or registred the device on garmin.com? There you should get an free mapupdate which could replace your broken maps.

You can buy one from garmin. You didn't say what model you have so I can't give you the link to it but I'll tell you how to find it. If you haven't already registered it you need to do so first.
To register;

• Connect it to your computer and go to www.garmin.com
• Select your country from the drop-down list
• Click on the myGarmin tab at the top of the page
• Click on "Register your garmin product" and follow the prompts.

You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you may need them again.

• When you have registered log into myGarmin using your username and password.
• Click on the myProducts tab at the top of the page
• You'll see the name of your phone on this page. Click on it.
• On the right hand side of the page you'll see accessories. Click on it.
• This will bring you to a page with a list of accessories. Click on the one you want and click add to cart.

Mine says the same thing... and I don't want to pay the $50 for an update when I can use the Google maps on my iPad or Blackberry. Seems like a scam to me.

It sounds like your screen has died on the unit and will need to be sent in for warranty, if it past the unit 1 year manufacturers warranty it is usually cheaper to get a new more up to date unit.
