Perhaps you have it set to avoid highways and tolls? Or perhaps you're in pedestrian mode - so it's smart enought to tell you to get off the highway. So check your Navigation mode under settings.

You have a defective touchscreen. It needs to be replaced.

Please connect your Nuvi up to a PC and look to see if you have the map file "gmapprom.img" in the Garmin directory. The file should be around 1.5 to 2 GB in size. If the file is missing you will need to replace it. If you have registered your unit with Garmin, you may be able to log into your Garmin account and download the map file again. Does the unit boot to the main menu? The GPS to PC communications routine is not accessible until the unit boots to the main screen,A common problem with these units is broken connections on the rear USB port. Below is the procedures for setting the languages...

Touch tools > settings > language > voice.

Voice- changes the language for voice promts.
Languages noted with a persons name are (tts)
text to speak voices.

which have an extensive vocabulary and pronounce
the street names as you approach turns.

The pre-recoreded voices (those without a persons name)
have a limited vocabulary and (do not speak names of locations or streets)

Text language- change all on-screen text to the selected language,
changing the text language does not change the language of user entered data
or map data, such as street names.

Keyboard- select the keyboard for your language,
you can also change the keyboard language mode from any keyboard
by touching the mode button

Adjusting the volume levels
From the "menu" page touch "volume"
to adjust the volume.

To adjust the volume levels for the media player
and the navigation prompts,
please click.

Tools > settings > Volume > Restore
Restore will, restore to origional volume levels.

It's amazing that you can see through all these layers and only lose 20% of the light. What's not so amazing is that those thin metal layers are prone to damage.Touch screen gps

ok... press where to,then address,then at the bottom you willyou will see change state/country, press that, then at the bottom again you will see at the bottom of screen change country. press that, then enter united states, then the state you are in. then your all good. :O) Tim (in oregon)

please follow the procedure below.


Go to your account at garmin that you created to manage your maps.

Click myMaps

Click Manage Maps

You should see your unit and it’s unlock codes

Copy all the unlock codes for your device

Close your internet browser
Right click on your desktop

Click new, and then click a new Text Document

Click on the newly created Text Document icon from the desktop

Type your unlock codes into the document
Click File and Save as

Change the file name to gmapprom.unl (( double check this please ))

Change the “Save as type” to "All files"
Close the document

You should see the file gmapprom.unl on your desktop
Right click on the gmapprom.unl file and then click copy

Plug your Garmin device in and then click Computer/ My Computer
Click on the nüvi drive

Right click on the Garmin folder and click paste
Safely disconnect your Garmin device from the computer

with the garmin off, hold down the right bottom of the screen and turn the garmin on, it will then ask you if you want to perform a hard reset. Choose yes and that should fix your problem.
