If you are willing to pay actual cost for shipping, I have an SR-16 with a broken screen that i could send you to salvage parts from. I bought it, I believe in December of 07 & other than the squished screen, I believe it to be in great shape. I just bought another one instead of fixing this one, so I certainly don't need it. Email me if you are interested. My guess is that USPS shipping would be like 2 or 3 bucks,as long as you are in the states.

Many people have had this problem WHEN they substitued a replacement power adapter.

The CORRECT adapter MUST supply 9 volts AC, NOT DC at 830 ma or more.

The AC is converted inside the SR-16 to both + and - power to run the internal circuits. IF you have connected a 9 v DC adapter, it will NOT have damaged anything, just get the CORRECT adapter and all will be well.

try adjusting contrast, and try a different lighting source. If you have a polarized light source currently, try orienting it 90 degrees from where it is. That type of LCD relies on reflected lighting and it uses polarizing filters, so you may be at maximum contrast, but the current lighting is being absorbed by those polarized filters. Plus LED lighting, if not the right light frequency too- it gets absorbed. I have a clock in front of me that is exactly that way

I suspect that that part MAY be a three terminal power regulator. If it is, then there is probably a near short on the buss it supplies. A common problem is a shorted bypass cap. Without a schematic this can be hard to find. y procedure is to reduce the power inout so nothing burns, then check power at each IC on the pins and find one that is near zero then look for shorted bypass cap nearby.

Which is it... a DM5 set or an SR16? This Fixya thing is disgusting trying to offer up brands and models. IF you might have an SR16 that has a problem, the USUAL problem is using the WRONG power supply with it. You CANNOT use universal power supply... you must use the official adapter or it will not work.

I assume you held the erase and play and re-initialized the firmware. I assume you failed to generate either a backup MIDI file or an audio tape backup. Now you will need to find another person with an SR16 and copy via MIDI or Audio (really digital) tape to reload your unit. Your user manual will tell you the procedure to do this once you find a host SR16.

Likely the input rectifier and filter in the SR16 has shorted diodes or caps. Should be easy fix for a competent electronics tech.

im not familiar with this product but it sounds like it has something to do w timing or metronome. my sugguestions is to see if other people are having the same issue on Alesis's support site.

Hi. Did you get your unit fixed after? You might want to check that your footswitch and connecting cable is in working order. If ther are any issues with that, then you may not be able to start and stop your unit with the footswitch. If that is ok, then your problem is internal.

What power adapter do you have on this? This one REQUIRES and AC input, NOT a DC adapter !!! Many people try DC adapters on these because they lose the original and ALL fail. You need a 9VAC at 830ma or more adapter. If you have lost yours, search for "SR16 power adapter" to find replacement.

If the screen is obviously broken, the unit will have to be repaired. This unit requires a SPECIAL power supply to operate. Often people try to use a DC supply but this one takes AC input. It usually will either turn on or not and will not generate sound with the wrong supply.

Check your power adapter. This unit REQUIRES a 9 volt AC adapter, NOT a DC one... It MAY appear to operate on DC BUT it can't generate the +/- voltages internally for sound generation with a DC adapter. This is a common problem as people try to run these on a DC adapter.
