change your setting on the blu-ray player to 1080p and it doesn't matter if your tv is only 720

possibly because the regions are different to dvd than blu ray, there are 8-9 for Dvd and 3 for blu ray.

Standard DVDSs are read by a red laser while blue ray DVDs are read by a blue laser (hence the name). The blue laser diode is likely to be faulty and therefore standard dvds work but blue ray dvds do not. This is not an easily obtainable or replaceable part.

Connect the ethernet cable to the backside of the samsung bluray 1500 player ethernet connection with the bluray player power on with no disk & it will automatically update your bluray. It should be work fine after update your bluray. Good Luck!

Go to there website, look up your bp,download the update to a usb flash drive. insert it into players usb port turn it on and walla update will start!

The Samsung blu-ray players need constant firmware updating. It is best to plug an ethernet cable from your router into the back end of the Samsung ( or get a wireless LAN ). I have multiple units that need updating so I bought a wireless ethernet bridge. The unit will tell you when a firmware update is needed and you then "accept" it through your remote. If you don't want to do this, then you will have to do it through the USB. That means you go to the Samsung website, find your player then look for downloads. Download to USB then xfer to the Samsung. Good luck

Check your sound settings on the dvd player should be pcm
Turn off dvd player and tv and make sure tv is turned on first

Nope. The laser mechanism seems to have developed a preference of its won and refuses to work with DVD media. You have already done a firmware update so that is ng. Could be that when you updated it to play newer blue rays, the update messed up unit for dvd playback. Happens. But do not sweat - that unit has a one year warranty - use it.
