Atszamhow to restore factory setting

On the back of the router there is a small reset button. Take a pin or the tip of a pen or pencil and press the button for about 10 seconds. When all the lights on the front of the router all flash let go of the button. Now your router should be set back to factory setting, like it just came out of the box.
Good Luck and vote for me if this answer helped you out. Cheers.

How do i reset my router?

Normally there is a button on the back of the router that says reset. You need to hold this in for 10 seconds with a pin or the tip of a pen or pencil. When all the lights on the front of the router flash, it should be reset back to the way it was out of the box, ready for initial setup again.
Good Luck.

Welcome to fixya

If you have forgotten the wireless network key , you can retrieve it from the router itself

Click the below link
http://192.168.1.1

Now it will ask for username and password

Enter username = ( blank) and password = admin
If you can't login using this credentials then you will have to reset the router

If you logged in . Then click on Wireless > security

On this screen you can see the wireless key
If the security mode is WEP then your password is Key1
If the security mode is WPA-PSK then your password is Preshared key

Retrive user name and password

The real purpose of he password is so that someone other than you, on the network, cannot change the router setting.
Since you cannot recoverer the password, the easiest thing to do is to rest the router back to the factory default condition.

On the back of the router, next to the on/off switch the is a small hole about the size of a pencil lead. Just push the point of a pen or unbent paper clip in the hole , firmly for about ten seconds. This will rest the router. You can now reconfigure it an reset the password.
Lost the manual. go here and download a new one for free. the above instructions along with photo is one page 1.

We are using a Linksys router for two computers on

Sounds like an intermittent connection. Could be caused by a few things, interference on the wireless, faulty router, low SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) on the line, or it could be a faulty/overloaded router on the ISP's end. Or it could be your computer if you have viruses/spyware/malware, or a faulty NIC (Network Interface Card).

Since you've checked your wireless router, it would seem that the fault could be on the isp's end. To verify this try connecting to your router with a cable instead of via wireless, if this solves your problem the it's something to do with your wireless (router or nic). Otherwise it's either your pc is infected or the ISP's fault.

You can use an antivirus program and some anti spyware/malware programs to check your pc, but even if they all say it's clean, you may still be infected, as they are always behind the virus makers. I would recommend avast antivirus, adaware and spybot:search and destroy. A quick search on google will find them.

I would advise checking everything before phoning your isp, as you will be able to provide more info for them to use to help you, also if they can't find anything they'll tell you it's your pc.

If I had to guess based on the info you've provided I'd say it's low SNR that is causing your problems, if so you'll need to contact your isp to get it fixed.

You actually don't need a setup disk for setting up a router. Try the following steps.
  1. Reset your router to default configurations by holding the reset button for 15 seconds.
  2. Make sure your desktop is set to "obtain an ip address automatically."
  3. Connect an ethernet cable between your router and desktop.
This should get you connected to the router. If you want to make any configuration changes, perform the following steps.
  1. Open up a web browser.
  2. Type in the address bar 192.168.1.1 (Default IP address of Linksys routers)
This will connect you to the router.
  3. It will prompt you to login. The default username is blank (no text at all) and the password is admin.

I have a modem cable

Hello,
I install Linksys routers all the time. Usually the first thing I do, is update the routers firmware. Many times I find that if the Linksys router doesn't automatically get a connection from DHCP, updating the firmware usually solves it.

To update the firmware:
Connect just to the cable box so you have an active internet connection.
1. Go to: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT54G2/download
2. Select your router version (can be found on the sticker near the model number) and download the latest firmware to a spot you will remember.
3. Now connect the router to your cable modem and computer.
4. Access your routers configuration page (If you don't know the address try: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1).
5. Log-in - if you haven't changed the username/password the default should be a blank username with the password "admin".
6. Click "Administration"
7. Click "Firmware Upgrade"
8. Click "Browse" and choose the firmware file you downloaded in step 2.
10. Click Upgrade. Be patient and let it do its thing.

See if you connect after that. If not, let me know and I will walk you through the next steps.

Regards,
KYTechnology

Make sure you update your wireless router firmware..
Use link below to update

http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-ca/wireless/lbc/WRT54G2

Please note:

Linksys is known for alot of problems with there firmwares causing tons for problems ..

I use a linksys wireless router my self & had to unplug the router every 2 to 4 days because it would stop any computers to go on the internet.
I flashed my firmware and put in a 3rd party firmware that has never caused any problems and it gave me tons of features that your linksys firmware did not.

If you are a advanced user you can flash your firmware and put in non-linksys firmware. Not all routers can accept this firmware but you can search up your router model and version to see. Make sure you read all the how to install and all the warnings .. Keep in mind there is a chance no matter if you followed the instructions exactly that it could destroy your router. But the chance is low.
