All the lights on my Westell Model 6100 are green

The reason why your internet light is red for the westell model 6100 is because it is not yet configure. You need to access the gui of this modem. Enter the username and password for your internet connection. You will get the username and password from your ISP. You can contact your ISP provider so they can walk you through for the steps on how to configure your new router.

Red power light

You need to hard reset your modem. By doing that, unplug the modem from the power outlet. Look at the back of the modem, you will see there a small red button. You need to press that button. You need to get a pin or pen to press that reset button. Press the reset button for 5 mins. Monitor the power light. It will change to orange light and it will restart. Once it restarted, you can release the reset button and wait for the lights to come up. Since you did the hard reset. You need to configure the modem with your username and password from your ISP.
You need to access the gui or firmware of your modem. If it ask for username and password. This is the time you need to contact your ISP. They will help you to configure the modem. Once they provided you the username and password ofr your modem. Write it down so you will have a copy and in case it happen again you know what to do. Username and password for the modem is different from the username and password for your internet. You also need to enter the username and password for the internet so you can use the internet. If you get a red light for the internet, that means the username and password is incorrect.
If this didnt work. You need to replace your modem.

Unblocking

That Westell is not wireless so the short answer is no.
However you can buy a used wireless cheap on www.craiglist.org for not too much. Wire the wire that is going into your pc into the NEW WIRELESS MODEM you get and then set that to run the first one to your PC and then you will have wireless as long as the modem you put into the mix is wireless.
XP - Vista and especially Windows 7 makes wireless a breeze.

One last note - Some internet providers do not like you to set up home wireless systems - and they sell wireless units - or 'rent' them for extra money. So -you might check with them. There is no law against setting you your own network but the ISP or what is called your provider will know and some don't like it - so if you loose connection after setting up your network - check FIRST with your ISP -- to see if they are messing with it - [ not saying they are - just saying]
Best of it

Connect 2 PCs to Westell 6100 DSL modem

well depends on if you want to hookup wirelessly with one or not. If the modem has a USB connection as well as ethernet, then you can hook up 1 computer to usb and 1 to ethernet with no problems. If you do want a wireless hookup then yes, you need a wireless router. I would just go with a router because of the convenience of being able to go wireless if you decide to. I would suggest a Linksys WRT-54GL with a 3rd party firmware (DD,-WRT, Tomato, etc.) Hope this helps.

CANNOT GET INTERNET TO WORK... SHOWS ALL

If the internet light is red, it means that the modem is not getting the connection from your ISP.

To verify the settings, just access the setup page using a web browser. Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

By default the username is admin and the password is password.

If this doesn't work, try admin for the username and password. If still not working, you will need to reset the modem.

Once on the setup page, go to Configuration.

If you have a PPPOE connection, make sure that the username and password provided by your ISP is correct on the firewall.

If you have DHCP, the modem should be in bridge mode.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

My ethernet light is blinking

Make sure you have internet. The ethernet light is blinking because what ever u have plugged into it is talking to the modem. The modem will then take that request and ask for it on the DSL/internet line. Make sure the DSL light is steady on and the internet light is on or flashing with activity.

I have tried in vain to get the USB connection on

I suggest that you use ethernet connection instead of the USB connection.

Ethernet is more stable that USB, you less likely to experience dropped connections.

Also take note that you can only use one connection at a time. You CANNOT use Ethernet on one computer, then USB on the other computer.

But if you insist to use the USB connection, you need to install the drivers. Once the usb cable is connected to the modem and computer, you will get a found new hardware wizard screen. Then you will need to insert the CD that came with the adapter to your computer.

If the found new hardware wizard did not appear, check your device manager and look if there is a USB adapter with a question mark or exclamation point. Right click on the USB adapter then click reinstall.

It should detect the drivers from the cd.

Good luck and have a great day!

Westwall modem Internet is solid red light

If the internet light is red, it means that the modem cannot get an ip connection from the ISP.

If your ISP has a PPPOE connection, most likely, the PPPOE password is not correct.

To ensure your settings, access the modem through a web browser. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1.

Default Username: admin
Default Password: password

If this doesn't work, try admin for the username and password. If still doesn't work, you will need to reset the modem. Just hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Then turn it off for 1 minute.

Try again to access the modem, under Configuration, click Edit beside My Connection. Type your ISP username and password then Save.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Flashing red power light

Try the following steps:
1. Disconnect the modem's power adapter.

2. Reinsert the power adapter directly into the wall socket.

3.Remove any power strips or surge protectors temporarily to ensure that these items are not preventing the modem proper operation. Note: Make sure that you are using the power adapter that came with your modem.

4. Plug the power adapter into a different wall socket in another room.

5. Press the reset and hold the reset button for 1 minute. Then turn it off for 1 minute, and then turn it back on.

6. If the power light is still red, then you will need to get a replacement.

Cannot access my router

Connect an Ethernet cable between your computer and the router.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD and press ENTER
Type IPCONFIG and press ENTER
Look for a line of output like:

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 241.683.326.41

Start Internet Explorer
Type http://241.683.326.41
to access the web-server "inside" your router,
where '241.683.326.41' is the same IP-address as in that line of output.

You are now accessing your router.

The usb outlet no longer lights up or works on my

someone possibly disabled the usb port. can you still access the modems settings?

if so, there should be a setting to enable/disable usb.

if not and you know what you are doing [ie, did you know your modem has settings via it's very own website? many people do not. 192.168.0.1 <-- most common]. you will need to reset the modem to factory defaults. this usually entails unplugging it, pressing and holding the reset button for about 10-30seconds, then plugging it back in.

if you have to enter a user name and password for your isp, you will need to do that again if the reset was successful [that's how i can tell if i did it right anyway].

i hope this helps.
