you should have a red light and if its on it should be working. I would just go on Amazon and buy a AV connector for the system, no need to use RF like its 1989 :)

Well the controller might be broken then and try using another controller if still no luck this has happened once before to me the contollers were find but I had tried to solder the control port for player 2 and it had worked after that it could just be that issue then with needing to be resoldered. Sometimes the controller ports can become a little loose do to old age and usage.

The button cell battery is dead. You can replace them but you will have to solder them in. If you decide to do so dont heat the battery up to much for it may explode. If you have a friend that knows how to solder ask them for help.

You might want to resolder all the pins on the connector, and when you are in there, eeplace the caps to make it last forever

C'mon, this is a 90's system- blow in it- everyone knows that. Seriously, put some rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip, and lean both sides of the contacts that go into the console. That should help.

Close to the power supply input is a 9-pin round connector.
You will need a cable that connect this output to your TV.
You can find the description here:

Halfway the page you will find the description of the MK-1631 with details about the cable you need.

There is a picture of the cable here:

You can also google for a "9-pin A/V Cable for SMS & GENESIS".

I hope this helps!

It might be dead. I used to have two of them I got from a relative as well and one of them did the same thing. The inside might just be fried (they're old consoles). You could take it to a repair place if you really wanted to but it may cost more money to have it looked at than the system is worth as a whole.
