Rotate the page before inserting a box for the page number. You have to use the Forms function to insert a box and add the page number. Then Rotate back. Then print the form to PDF. When you open page number will be where you placed it.

If you check your document and can't find anything missing the file should be ok.
Depending on what program you used to create the pdf, it could have been a layer that was not turned on or something off the pasteboard.

GO to View/Tool Bars/Page Navigation. This will show page numbers again.

your installation source may have corrupted or missing installation files. try downloading another one or if you bought the software with a license try contacting their site inorder to replace the product. Does the cd have scratches? if not, then there may be a problem on the cd. There are two files that are missing. Restart your computer and try again! If not acrobat pro 7.0 is not compitable with the operating system on the new computer.

There might be an error when she sent you the file or when she was exporting it or saving it...If you have an instant messenger, just try sending it through Instant Messenger (e.g. Yahoo messenger, Skype)...if she sent it through IM, then try sending it through attachment and email...
