Professor Layton & the Curious Village Games for DS: Are these games for older people?...

The Professor Layton games appeal to a wide age range with some fans of the series being in their 50s and 60s (although the biggest age group are players in their mid to late teens and early twenties)

Whether you would enjoy these games largely depends on whether you'd enjoy solving the types of puzzles the game offers

While most of the puzzles are logic puzzles, they also include sliding block puzzles, matchstick puzzles, river crossing puzzles, chess puzzles, etc

You may find it useful to look over the popular illustrated walkthroughs so you can see for yourself the types of puzzles the games use along with the graphics and general style of play (which largely involves going around talking to other characters and finding optional hidden hint coins)

With recurring characters, a sub-plot running through a trilogy and a significant spoiler in the second game, it's best to start with the Curious Village (which is also the cheaper entry point)

Solving puzzle 100

This continues to be the most commonly asked about Curious Village puzzle on FixYa (a quick search finds several pages of answers)

As the hints state, all but one square is tilted and each pin can only be used once

The hints also give you the location of three squares and tell you the size and angle of another two squares

As an extra hint, none of the three small tilted squares mentioned in the hints overlap each other (knowing this gives you the location of one more square and just two possible locations for another)

From here, the rest should be easy (with eight pins to form two squares)

Make sure to use all the pins (all squares must have a pin in each corner)

The games loads but does let me go past the screen

Almost everyone that has had this problem obtained a "second hand" copy of the game from eBay

Many of the eBay copies are actually illegal pirated copies and have one or more corrupted movie files that prevent the movies from playing (a movie should play when you start a new game) and there is no fix for this other than obtaining a new copy of the game (since the movies in the game can't be skipped)

If you did purchase the game from a store, return it for a replacement

I cannot get the answer for the 33333 problem. how...

The hints give you most of the solution and what's left can be worked out without much difficulty

It can take a while to work out mathematically without using the hints, so it's probably a good idea to use at least one or two of the hints

Remember that the leftmost top number can be a 4 (which, in turn, limits the number of possible combinations in the second column)

You can see the hints and two possible solutions here

I have completed all puzzles as the game says so

Check the Unlocking Bonuses index (down the right side) of this popular walkthrough too see how to unlock whichever houses you haven't unlocked
http://professorlaytonwalkthrough.blogspot.com/

The walkthrough's FAQ may also be of help
http://professorlaytonwalkthrough.blogspot.com/2009/05/faq.html

The most commonly overlooked house is The Decorator's House (from not completing the inn task in the trunk) and the walkthrough has indexes down the side (near the bottom) that show you which item goes in which room if this is one of the houses you haven't unlocked

I have completed all puzzles as the game says so

Firstly, go to this popular walkthrough
http://professorlaytonwalkthrough.blogspot.com/

Look down the right side and you'll find an index called Unlocking Bonuses

Click on whichever houses you haven't unlocked to see how to unlock them

If you haven't unlocked The Decorator's House (which is one of the most commonly missed as players often forget about this trunk task), then you'll find indexes further down the right side showing which items go in which room

My game does not stay saved when I shut down my DS

Naturally, this should not happen

If you're positive that you're saving the game correctly (saving through the Save option in the trunk and letting it finish saving), then there's a problem with your copy of the game

If you obtained a "second hand" copy through some place like eBay, then you likely have a pirated copy of the game (which are known to have a number of problems such as this one)

If you purchased it from a store, then take it back for a replacement (which is the only "fix" for this problem)

How can you get back to puzzles missed in

Any missed puzzles will either still be in their original location or (as the game points out) in Granny's Shack

During the train and Dropstone sections, Granny uses a smaller portable shack

Once Folsense is reached, some players overlook Granny's full size shack seen here
http://professorlayton2walkthrough.blogspot.com/2008/11/puzzle129.html#photograph008

Additionally, once you reach Folsense, you can't return to the earlier locations and any missed puzzles from these locations will be in the shack

If you've finished the story, the game puts you back to before the ending so you can return to Folsense and finish whatever has been missed

Some players overlook that you can walk around (and leave the castle) instead of talking to Katia (which initiates the ending again)

You can see where to leave the castle here
http://professorlayton2walkthrough.blogspot.com/2008/11/puzzle137.html

You can use the walkthrough's puzzle index (down the right side) to find where any missing puzzles are (if the puzzle is no longer in the location shown then it will be in the shack)
