Make sure the power supply is connected properly. If the power supply is connected upside down or sideways, the system will make a thumping noise, or will not play at all. However, no damage will be caused by connecting this wire incorrectly.

This is true. The new iPod nano is not compatible with the original SoundDock. This only means that it won't charge the iPod's power. Audio should be okay. This is an Apple issue. They changed the way almost all of their iPods charge (except the iPod classic). Bose can upgrade the SoundDock for their normal repair fee of $99. This would also you a new 1 year warranty.

I had the same problem. Very frustrating. Tried everything. Discovered the solution. The device that the remote control sends a signal to is located inside the grill of the SoundDock. The receiving device has a lens (which we can't see since it is hidden inside the grill). It can get dust on it that interferes in the signal being received and the remote can then only adjust the volume up and down but no other feature. I sprayed my grill with a can of air. Not being sure exactly where the device is, I sprayed the entire grill, being careful to spray from six inches or so from the grill. Just like that - the remote then was immediaely fully functional and I have ever since been able to use all of the remote's functions. Steve

I just had the same problem with mine - turns out the Bose docking stations are comlete and utter **** and if yours keeps working you're one of the lucky few. Mine only had sparodic use over a 3 month period and it stopped producing sound the other day. I took it to a repair shop and they've seen a lot of them with the same problem. The solution - dump it in the bin and get a logitec set of speakers & you'll have better sound. This was proven by attaching the iPod to each system.

Hi zoe_lengyel,

I see that your are having a no sound from your Sound Dock.

*On your Sound Dock while your ipod is docked check if the Volume is set to normal.
* If there are any other devices connected behind on the input jack then you may need to Remove or Disconnect that device.
*try playing audio from your ipod again this should work now.

If the issue is the same try to press and hold down the Play/Pause Button for atleast2-3 seconds. also check link below.

My guess is that the iPod connector in the Sounddock is loose or damaged. You can get a new connector and solder it on yourself (very difficult!) or you could get a replacement PCB at which is quite easy to replace (see for description).

Check with a magnifying glass if any of the pins on the iPod connector is loose. Push each pin with a needle while you watch in the magnifying glass to see if any of the pins are moving.

This indicates the power supply of the dock has failed, which is extremely rare for these Bose units, they are quite high end really. If it's only 3 months old then it is under full warranty and you will just want to get a completely replacement unit. I can confirm that it definitely has a failed power supply or main board in the unit, either way it is a difficult and expensive repair, but you are totally covered under warranty. Electronics are finicky sometimes and they are prone to just giving out without notice which is why warranties exist to cover situations like this. Usually electronics will have problems in the first 6-10 months if they are going to have problems at all, and if they don't they usually last for many years.
