Water stands in bottom

Remove the bottom strainers plates and make sure that the outlet pipe is not kinked, that there is nothing obstructing the pipe or the pump or selector valve. If possible back flush through the outlet pipe and try draining the machine again before using it again.

My dishwasher will not drain!

Your dishwasher may have a simple 'drain hose plugged' problem.
Check this first.
The drain hose leads out of the dishwasher to a drain, normally under
the kitchen sink. Pull this line from the dishwasher off its connection
on the drain (Nomally just a clamp of some sort) and make sure it does
not have something caught in the line, like a piece of food or something.
You could even shove a wire up the hose line after its off to make sure it
is not plugged farther up the hose line.
If this looks to be clear of abstruction, then you will need to pull the
dishwasher out of its cabinet position and inspect the underneath
of the dishwasher. If the line looks attached and no leaks or broken line,
then it may be the dishwasher pump it self that is faulty. One other thing to check
first before you call a repair man to replace the pump, is make sure you
have power to the pump. There should be an electrical connection
to the pump. Make sure it is attached, therefore power to the pump.
If it is not attached it may have just come lose, and it would be a simple fix.
OTHERWISE - - this ll fails, call your local service repair man to replace
the drain pump.

I have a Tappan model

Ok so your dishwasher won't do anything... it justs sits there and "Hums" you can't make it respond to any controls, and the ONLY way to Stop it. is to unplug the unit, replugging back in it simply "Hums" again and will do nothing.
Now this happens because, the STOP Button, is pressed and the "Door Opened", during the Wash Cycle. This should NOT be done. You shouldNEVER TURN IT OFF MID-CYCLE. you should instead, Simply, pull on the handle, to Open the door, the system will take care of everything, after, you close it,and pick up where it left off. The turning OFF, makes the machine "Think" that a New Cycle, is going to be done, before the old one is finished, and resets itself to do it all again. But it still has water, that's not meant to be there so it must dump it out.
Now, the FIX. Take the Dishwasher, out, and tip over on it's side, tip to about a 45' angle. Water will come out from underneath, this is from a small "Overflow" reservoir. this reservoir has an "Anti-Flood" switch. The removing of this water will "Reset" this Switch, and allow the dishwasher to work again.
So what happens, is this, when the STOP button is pressed Mid-Cycle, the machine must "Dump" whatever water is still in the machine, into the "Overflow Reservoir". This water then causes the Anti-flood switch to jam, and this stops the machine, until it is reset,by the above method.

Dishwasher won't drain

I would first check to see if the drain filter is clogged, then the drain line. If no clog is found then it most likely has a pump problem. I hope the filter is just dirty. good lcuk.
