Yes, but you may have to send it back to Lowrance to be fixed and that could cost a couple of hundred dollars. I have Humminbirds on my boat and the smaller 997C Si screen was scatched, but not badly. I actually tried the same remody on it that I have in the past for scratched cd's and DVD's.There is a car wax like polish that you can get for scratched CD's and DVD's that you rub on much like car wax, once it dries it hazes over and then you come back over it with a microfiber towel or paper towel to polish it out. in my case it worked well enough to where the scratch is not that apparent any longer. It is still there but the compound sort of filled in the scratch enough to where it doesnt defrag the pixels on my screen. I can live with it considering the alternative is a couple of bills out of my pocket and the CD scratch compound was like $20.I have a buddy that shattered his screen on the lowrance, he sent it in and for a like $260.00 they sent him a replacement unit and took his old unit as trade in.In short it can be fixed, I would not attempt to have anyone other than Lowrance do it if its bad though as it can void the warranty.

The updates for your Lowrance LCX16 are installed through the MMC card slot. You should have two slots, one for the operational chip and one for the maps chip. The updates are copied to the maps chip and installed to the ops chip. There are updates available, but as you will no doubt see, Lowrance's website is down for some reason and you will have to wait in order to download the newest updates. My really older, but loved, unit failed and Lowrance pointed out that techonlogy is SERIOUSLY imporved, and convinced me to upgrade to a new unit. I disliked the price, but LOVE THE unit. TONS easier to read, even in bright sunlight, depth sounder portion much improved...twin beams really makes accurate reading, and fast readings (unlike older units).

Depending on when you got your Lowrance you should go get it exchange from the store (If it is warranty period).
Sorry to tell you that there is no way of cleaning it, do not try to open the screen and clean it because you are gonna mess it up more then what it is.
You might be able to send it to a store were they may clean it for you
