Something must be stopping the gas flow to the burners - blocked jets, blockage in the line, thermostat or safety thermocouple.

Thermocouple is probably the most common heater failure though in a conventional design usually when it fails the pilot will light but not remain lit.
Knowing the thermostat is electrically ok doesn't mean it is allowing a flow of gas when it is supposed to but again much depends on the design. With an electrical/electronic system the thermostat will probably switch an electrical supply to a solenoid valve controlling the gas flow. A continuity check with an ohmmeter is only a prelude to measuring the voltage/current flow and that is only a prelude to ensuring the presence of a supply actually switches on the gas flow...

Same problem, but now it is ok.  I emailed Sunbeam and was told that if my blanket was not plugged directly into a wall outlet it was not getting enough power and I needed to plug it into a wall outlet taking these steps:
1) Unplug from the surge protector/extension cord 2) Unplug from the blanket 3) Plug back into the blanket 4) Plug into a wall outlet

The mechanism that the thermostat tries to activate gets stuck. That's why the vibration of jumping up and down gets the furance going again. Parts for older furnaces likely are not in great supply although I know of an instance when one such part over 50 years old was retrieved from a shelf in Chicago. Nor are they cheap to replace if you find one, several hundred. Contact Coleman and see what they say. I presume this is a floor furnace. Getting someone willing to work on a floor furnace usually takes a lot of hunting.

Empire still makes floor furnaces under its brand name. I mention this because of the ten repair guys you contact, nine of them will want you to spend big money on combination air/cooling systems and all nine will say they don't know of anyone making floor furnaces. You will have to really hunt for an outfit that still installs such. An Empire unit might cost you between three and four grand or a bit more depending on your heating requirements. You will get quotes from about four grand to ten grand or better for HVAC units (cooling and heating). This make me feel bad because I suspect I need to send you smelling salts about now to revive you.
