Check your power and ground and make sure they are secure and the wire you are tapping into can handle the draw. You can hook it directly to the battery for testing purposes. If it works then your power and ground are to blame, if not then it is the unit.

Get a DVD Laser Lens cleaner kit with a disc and fluid. Run the kits per instructions, This may help. If it doesnt your laser may need a mechanical or Electronic adjustment.

You probably have a connector up inside the housing that is loose. Or the dealer changed the radio out and did not wire up the sound. Either way the sound comes from a circuit board up in the DVD player itself. You need to unscrew it from the ceiling and look for wiring clues. May be as simple as plugging it into the appropriate connector.

Try to check the parking wire if it is connected to the radio ground. It should be connected to radio ground instead of the parking break ground.
