Wrote zeros to hard drive

If you wrote zeros to the drive then there is no way of recovering the data. All you can do is format it and start over.

I wanted to back up

Hi, Thanks for using fixya.

If you have the fake security center go into the path:

C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft

Look for a folder with 8-10 letter of jibberish and delete it. If windows won't let you do it go into safe mode and do it.

How to disable Autorun function

Have you tried renaming autorun.inf or the autorun folder to something else? This file or folder would be in the root directory of the drive.

That would be my guess.

Please be kind when you rate -- I admit this is a guess.

Thanks for using FixYa and Happy New Year

When I plug the wd

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy a new W.D. device, through the W.D. web-site, at a significant discount.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Just a single question, I

The autoplay function sets a default action everytime you wish to do something with a media file.
So if you put a blank cd in then you can set your cd burning software to launch, or if you plug a memory card or portable hard drive you can set the pc to open the drive,or open your image viewer to view pictures.
If you have not set your autoplay functions, a box will usually just pop up asking what would you like to do

It was missed and dropped down..

If it shows in Taskbar that it found new hardware then it does detect the PC board of the hard drive but the drive's head mechanics or the actual disk inside have been damaged by the fall and therefore it cannot read off the drive which means your drive has now permanent damage.
Therefore it cannot be detected at bootup...
You may try a DATA RETRIEVAL company to see if they can get your information off the fallen drive.

1.I will suggest you please partitioned it properly.

2. Check your Registry. Some times people use to FIX Registry for Reading multiple Partitioned External Drive.
3. You must require partition.

4. Have you check the cable which was supplied with the HD. As other cable may not support properly.

750GB Western Digital HDD won't turn on.

hi.. try to Remove the drive from it's external case, and try a different hard drive. If that works, your drive is the problem. If it still doesn't work, the USB to IDE interface is the issue.
Try mounting the original IDE drive internally, and see if you can read it there. If not, you'll need to send it to a data recovery center...

thank u

Cannot see WD 120 GB in my Computer

Sounds like the USB interface is working, but the physical drive is not. Remove the drive from it's external case, and try a different hard drive. If that works, your drive is the problem. If it still doesn't work, the USB to IDE interface is the issue.

Try mounting the original IDE drive internally, and see if you can read it there. If not, you'll need to send it to a data recovery center.

Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

The drive should be set with jumpers or cable select to be primary master. Some pc & drive combinations don't like cable select, others insist on it. Try both, one at a time.
