yes you have a internal fault of the amp. the circuit that puts it into
safe mode is bad and that is a very small chip on the board know as a
op amp. needs to be repaired.

Try switching around one of the pos/neg speaker wires (you may have one crossed and they are firing out of phase, meaning when one pushes out the other pushes in and vise versa causing the base signals to cancel each other out) while the system is playing, only switch one speaker,not both. You can normally look at the subs and tell if they are moving very good and not much bass is there, you could also have the wrong box for them, this will also give a similar result

Overheating
The Kicker 10 may be running a 1 ohm load and that amp isn't 1 ohm stable.

What size preamp equalizer do i need for a 2000 watt amplifier for car subwoofers?
There is nada wrong with your preamp and changing it will accomplish nothing. If your channels are allegedly clipping it is due to the fact that it is being over driven. A bad preamp could not over drive your amp!
Have to be careful with tone controls at high levels. Every 3db increase compels amp to double power at that frequency. So if you are blasting at 2000 watts and you boost a control by that amount, your amp will put out 4000 watts and clip. If plus 6db then it is 8000 watts!
