What is a wap/key for the playstation 3
The WPA key (WEP or WPA-PAK are the options you get when setting up) is a method of securing wireless networks. The key in simple term means the password. This setting is not dependent on your PS3 but rather your WIRELESS ROUTER. If you do not use a wireless router then this setting does not apply to you.
You will need to log into your router settings. Using a PC, connect directly to the router and enter the routers IP address in a internet browser. (I type in http://192.168.1.1/ in the address bar of my browser on my pc to connect to my Linksys router.) LAN-IP address is normally set to a default, private number. Linksys routers (which is what i use at home) for example use 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1 some US Robotics use 192.168.123.254 and so on. But you should be able to find what your router ip address is by going to their website or looking in your users manual.
i'm able to find my WAP key under the "router access" in the sub menu of "administration tab" its all ******** out like any other protected fields but i know what mine is and is able to change it there.
In the security settings there should be a WPA key setting. If this is blank then your wireless internet is unprotected. If this is set, then you will need to enter the corresponding key into your PS3 to obtain access to the network.
if you know who set up your wireless network for your home you can ask them for the WEP or WPA key. in simple term that is just a password that they use to set up your WEP or WPA

This is an 80 GB
The reason why its happening is because your GPU (Graphic Process Unit) has been separated from the motherboard. your system see this issues and prevents it self from turning on so it wont get more damaged then what it is. in order to fix your system your chip must me re-solder back to its mother board, we suggest for a professional or sony them self
Sony charges :$140 plus shipping

My ps3 stopped playing games and movies. it plays
Hello,
You can try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:
1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System
If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.
Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).
Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as
well as cookies.
You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.
But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call Sony for further assistance.
I wish you good luck

How to fix ps3 not reading disk
It's not reading any kind of disc, or just that specific disk? Your problem is either with the disk itself or the PS3's disc reader. If it's with the latter, you will want to contact Sony so that they can repair your disc reader. There should be a number for this in the back of your PS3's user manual.

Trying to hook up playstation 3 with either HDMI
For the HDMI your TV input for that HDMI input may be skipped you should check and make sure that it is not greyed out and that you can select it. For the RCA.... You should make sure that you are hooking it up right. You either have composite cable 1 yellow video and a red and either white or black left and right audio to Yellow video and Red and white on the TV, or you have component which will be red green and blue all three will be for video and you will need 2 more rca jacks for audio. It matters where you plug the red green and blue cables as well. getting them backwards either won't work or will give you a tinted picture.
Additionally, make sure that your TV doesn't share inputs. Some TVs will have Video 1 and it will be composite RCA and HDMI and you can select which to use. if it sais HDMI one and Video one you should be fine there if both say video one or the like they are likely shared
Hope this helps!

My ps3 turns green then goes yellow and then
sorry but it sounds like your ps3 has overheated. aka the yellow light of death. I have fixed about 5 different ps3s with the yellow light. but it WILL overheat again. you can do the heat gun fix if you are computer savvy. here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_Ic1_TY-GU
it will work for a few days maybe a week or month if you keep the ps3 super cool, but it will still be damaged.
ultimately you will end up getting a new ps3.( get a slim)
If it makes you feel better, I paid 699 for a launch console, it got the yellow light 2 days over the 1 year warranty and sony made me pay 150 to fix it, thats 850$ for 1 ps3 !!! They ended up sending me another ps3, THAT one got the yellow light too! they wanted another 150 to fix it. so i fixed it myself and sold it to gamestop for 150 and got a slim.

Won't load blue ray game
The blue-ray inside your ps3 could be dead. I suggest try playing a DVD-Movie. If this doesn't work than it is dead. To replace it you would either need to call Sony or open the ps3 (This will void your warranty), locate the blue-ray, and find out the model and look in ebay to replace it.

Is the playstation network still down?
Hi,
Yes the PSN is still down and we don't know when it will be back up again. This is because they were hacked at some point last week so they need to set up new security measures which could take time.
If you have an email account registered with Sony Playstation then check your emails as they are emailing everyone with the latest updates.
Regards.
