I would contact Dell if it's still under warranty. If not, their out of warranty repair services are usually fairly reasonable, as are local repair shops. Unfortunately, there's not usually a quick-fix for this.

This might be occurring because the Drive might be SATA and the windows XP installation does not have the required drivers for it. You might need to boot with the special recovery CD given with the LAPTOP.

All dell laptops come with a Windows sticker on the bottom of the machine. you can read the 25 character key from there.

Browsing over the md120 specs, included should be a software disc for the usb connector, so it shouldn't matter whether you use an adapter or the 4 to 4 cable. This disc will have the drivers and software for using the camera in conjunction with your laptop. Have you tried this download for the camera.

Also check out this link. Towards the bottom under additional features it lists software, drivers and utilities, and at the bottom under supplied accessories it lists application software/usb driver. Go to the store you purchased this at or contact Cannon support and get the disc that was supposed to be included.

ask at Microsoft.com forum , there? or learn that if PC had this new, it is in fact crippleware. and will nag you until you buy it or do the rent things, 360 jive. best is buy it and set it up like you went. even 2007 runs here on w10. office. the PCs most on earth new, come with free but fully crippleware. as do vast other bloatware loaded on new PC. I erase all that junk and set up my own things paid and licensed.
