Not all the time but sometimes it is the result of trying to use the door handle too soon. Try a small pull and then a push. At other times, it is caused by gears wearing out from a handle being frequently pushed down. Try lifting the handle up. As I don't know the brand or model of the security lock, I'm hard pressed to offer a fix. Sounds like a mechanical issue rather than an electronic one. If so, disassembly is required.
