Problem is in audio driver
not quite sure of the problem, but what you can try is to boot in Safe Mode and uninstall the existing audio driver, then go to support.dell.com, click the Drivers/Downloads option, enter your tag, then select the correct operating system and download the driver from the audio category and install it. hope this helps.
Fix error code 146 dell xps 1330
Error 146 pertains to hard drive error. If there is still a chance to back up your files do so as this kind of error indicates a faulty
hard drive.
Xps 420 say's no audio device installed
it means that there is no audio drivers installed so you need to download the audio driver from www.dell.com/support or if it came with a utility cd you can get the drivers from it by just sloting in the cd and then you follow the interactive instructions.
Very slow computer in all aspects. Also it won't
If your computer is slow in all aspects then i am going to suggest thsat you might have picked up a virus or three in your travels. Generally slow in one or two areas can be ram update needed or something else, but the entire system usually means a virus and he probably invited a few friends to come along and join the party. A good anti virus might be able to fix it, but the only sure way to fix it, reformat the hard drive and start again. Sorry. Hope this helps.
How do i fix the volume on my computer?
A few places to look: the audio driver may need to be updated, the audio service may be a problem, or the speakers have failed: For the audio driver, in Windows 7, Click Start, Control Panel, Hardware, Device Manager. Scroll down to the audio section and right click on the sound controller. Choose either update driver or Properties and the driver tab. (If there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point, then this is the primary issue.)
The audio services are accessed from Start Run, "services.msc" without the quotes. Stop all audio services and click Apply. Then start them. Reboot the machine.
Check the speakers on another machine and if the wire/transformer is warm if you have self-powered speakers. If you can replace the audio cable, try a new one.
I hope this helps.

After windows sp2 update
0141 error is no hard drive detected. So boot to the BIOS F2 at boot and ensure that the BIOS is seeing the hard disk drive. If it is not, then reseat the drive/drive cable connections and try again. If the drive is detected in bios, then try booting to WIndows, if HDD never is detected, reset bios defaults and reboot, and see if it detects, if still not detected, replace the hard disk drive
Dell error code 2000-0142
Any error code for a hard drive isn't good, and should be reason to get a new one right away. So long as the drive is still able to be accessed, you have a chance of retrieving your data. There are free utilities to help you 'clone' the data to a new drive, but you may want to ask a tech-minded friend for help if you've never done it before. It sounds like the drive isn't dead yet, but is definitely on its way out. Good luck!

Disable mic on xps m1730
Right click on the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right, next to the date/time) and select recording devices. It will give you a list of whatever devices you have on your computer that are designated to record sounds. Choose the on board microphone, right click, and select disable device.

Dell pc makes loud clicking noise like machine gun
Something is jammed in one of the fans ???
(there are at least 2 = one at the back of the power supply = should be easy to see - and one inside on the CPU heatshnk (harder to get to)
Else its likley the Power supply or monitor is 'shorting out' internally ..
If it's just 'ticking' it's likly your hard drive going bad (unless, of course, you happen to have a CD/DVD disc inserted into the CD/DVD reader ...sometimes these 'tick' during power-up as the PC tries to boot from the disc :-) )

Will not power up
I know this post is over a year old, but i feel like chiming in anyway. The motherboard may have suffered from cheap cap syndrome. This happens when the components used to populate the motherboard were poorly made with inferior products. The capacitor's may have swelled up to the point of uselessness. This would give you post errors, or no post, or even no power. This is not to rule out the power supply, but it is more likely the motherboard.
To test the power supply, unplug the big 20+ pin plug from the power supply to the motherboard, and use a conductor such as a paperclip to connect the one and only green wire in the mix to any black wire (there is a black wire on either side of the green one, you can use both)
If the power supply is still good, the fans and drives will come on and spin up when you make this jump with the paperclip.
If for some reason you notice the fans twitching but not spinning, then you know the power supply IS bad!

A cd is stuck in my lap top the tray will come out but the cd will not
With the tray open, visually inspect to ensure the cd is still in line with the spindle. Something long and thin (such as a thin knife or spatula) slide it between the top of the drive and the top of the cd.
Carefully tip the tool down to try and release the CD from the spindle. Do not attempt to force it! If it is not jammed in the drive, the CD should drop free. Carefully pull the CD out of the drive.
Look at the CD to see if it has been damaged from the drive. If the CD will not come out, it needs to be take to a repair service.
