Hold the Home Button down for 5 second (do not release it)

You may see the screen go blank or not.
Plug the USB end into the computer with itunes open.
Your ipod will mount in recovery mode.

If ur using iPhone then u have to be corrected that iPhone doesnt have a memory card that is removable. It gets stored in a permanent built in memory.

Try reseting the device
