did you flip the little switch on the side of the memory card?

You may have inadvertently moved the switch on the right side. If you look at the card, label side facing you, there is a small plastic switch. To be writable, it should be positioned close to the top (the side you insert). Try sliding it one way or the other and reinserting.

I think you will find that the card works fine but your computer doesnt recognise the card reader properly. Windows 98 does not properly recognise most usb devices but Windows 98SE does although I am not sure if it will recognise usb2 properly.

stick with a better stick you will not have these issues.

The "other PC" needs to have the same application installed that created the files. It sounds likely that is the problem for the other PC. If the files are failing to open using the PC that originally copied the files, then try formatting the USB drive (formatting deletes all data). Before you copy the file again, make sure the same file opens from your computer prior to copying it. Now copy the file to it the USB drive again.

If you have the 4GB card the most likely problem is your reader is not SDHC compatible. SDHC cards are all SD cards that are 4GB and larger. If your reader is the reason then you must get a new reader to plug into your USB port that will read SDHC cards.

Formatting your SD card will remove the passwords.

when its loaded into the memory card slot or however you have it attached to your computer right click on the assigned driver letter --> properties --> tools --> scan disk or check disk and see if it comes up with any issues

Also if this is a new memory card get a replacement that or if its too old then buy a new one

try to format from DOS

Copy the data of Pen drive to PC and format the drive. Now paste the data back to the pen drive.

go to control panel in windows xp and go to administrative tools, then click on computer management
then click on disk management and find your thumbdrive on there then you want to re partition it then
format it

try connecting it to a diff. usb port.
most likely problemis that the drife may have malfunctioned.

forget about your work, its gone and the card is corrupted you need a data recovery lab to see if they can retreive the data
