Magellan Maestro 4250 GPS - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Does the gps uni9t need charged before use
No it does not need to be charged so long as you are going to have it plugged into the car with the power cord. Depending on your car, it may continue to charge after you shut the car off if your accessory outlets stay on with the key off.
Cheers
My 4250 stopped talking. I ran the diagnostic
Probably a bad speaker, common problem with GPS units. Is there any sound at all, have you tried calling your cell phone to see if you can hear the rig through the GPS?
Try that and if you still can't hear anything it could be the speaker.
Screen stays on the blue magellan screen
- Try to press and hold the reset botton for 15 seconds if that will not work try to press the power botton for at least 10 seconds. If these two will not work, call the tech support of magellan and check if its still under warranty so they can fix it for free. But if its not under warranty try to trade it in for free and they will give you a cheaper price.

Magellan Maestro 4250 fuse
It is a Fast Fuse Glass type 5 x 20mm, 2A, 250v. Magellan 4250 can only take 1A of current at 5Volts Radio Shack
Broken
There should be a reset button on the top or bottom of the unit, use a paper clip that you straightened and push in the reset button for 30 seconds.
If this does not work please post back and we can see whats your next step. Please post in detail any problems or errors.

you will have to set the gps position.
setting gps position is necessary if you are not getting satellite information because unit has traveled over 500 miles while turned off.setting GPS position will allow the unit that which satellites are available and compute the position quicker.

My car charger wont charge it
First, I'd check the fuse in the charger plug. If that isn't what's wrong, then likely the cord is simply not compatible with your unit, regardless of what the seller says.
I updated my magellan 4250 to v4.86 and now it
turn it on and hook it back up to the computer and once it has installed, use the safely remove hardware wizard to remove the 4250 from your computer, then plug it into your car again...if that fails, turn it on then try the reset on the side (little pin hole) use a paperc clip to reset it.
if you need further help, just reply to this post.

I can't get it to turn on. Even if it's plugged
Hello there :
please try this
first unplug the unit and open and remove the battery and press in and hold the reset or power button for 2 min than plug in everything and try it if still nothing than this may mean that the internal fuse may have blown and needs to be replaced or there is a connection that is inside of the unit that may need to be repaired if this is the case you may still have the warranty if so i would use it and have it repaired for free ok
Hope this helps out a lot
Best regards Michael
GPS had fallen off glass and broken power
From the Magellan website,

Customers with a broken display unit returned outside the warranty period will be given the opportunity to purchase a new unit at a reduced cost or reconditioned unit also at a reduced cost."
Troubleshooting
When the Maestro is on hold the on off switch for 15 seconds. This will reset the unit. Turn it back on and it should be ok. Worked for me so far.
Maestro 3100 will not change locations. I can be
the satellite are not linking up to your unit..
make sure it has a good charge, with the unit on press and hold the power button for 10 seconds after it shuts off. then press and hold the power button until it restarts.
take the unit outside in clear view of the open sky and let it aquire the saellites, indicated by the green bars in the top right of the map screen.
if they do not turn green, its not linking to the sats and you mgiht have another problem
let me know how you make out, so if it dont work, i can give you something else to try.

Lost fuse to Magellan 4250 and cannot find another for sale
I had a similar problem with a Mag. Maestro 4040. I searched high and low for the 4.6 x 16mm fast acting tube fuse 2a 250v. I called Magellan and they would not sell me or tell me where to find this fuse. Needless to say, I found it for $1 at Wayne Electronics in Wayne, NJ. Call them to see if they have the fuse you are looking for.
I just bought a refurbished Maestro 4250 and it
this model is know for this problem usaully caused by a bad usb port. you might get lucky though, because there not all bad.
if you have it plugged in, press and hold the power button for up to 15 seconds.
there are other thing you can do to see if yours has a usb problem, but unfortunately it will cost you money....i suggest if it doest turn on after what i suggested, take it back and get a different model..if you need a recommendation, let me know.
sadly, magellan will not recall these for this factory blunder
