If it was just no working on power adaptor I would have suggested the socket was faulty. However as not working on batteries I would suggest it is the on/off switch. From what I can remember the PSS680 used a slide on/off switch which when you look inside has a metal piece that makes the circuit on the PCB track. Over a period of time this can wear or get clogged up with dust etc. The other thing you could check is, do you think a wrong adaptor might have been used. Check the polarity against the picture shown on the back of the keyboard. If it is wrong you may have blown some of the power diodes.

I would normally suggest a power supply issue. Does the display flicker if you move the power plug, if so this is a common fault, replace socket. If it is not power related then as it works, charges up, squeal then suggests possibly a capacitor charging up and discharging.

Assuming it is a pSr630 keyboard then there are 2 ways to connect depending on the computer you are using. The 630 uses 5 pin din midi in and out. 1) If you wish to connect to USB then you will need a USB midi interface such as http://www.beckettsmusic.co.uk/shop/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=11173 or http://www.beckettsmusic.co.uk/shop/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=5894 2) If you are connecting to a desktop with a 15 pin socket you can use a cable http://www.beckettsmusic.co.uk/shop/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=18808 Your software then should recognise the input type in use and allow you to connect it accordingly.

Assuming the power supply is the correct type, the next likely thing to go wrong is the socket on the keyboard. Can you get it to light up if you wobble the connection to the keyboard. If it comes on momentarily then the socket is faulty and will need to be repair. A relatively simple soldering job if you are not competent in doing the job your local music store should be able to help. I do a lot of these in UK cost around 30.00GBP including parts.
