Annoying noise + low volume

the wires are shorting internaly, if they are a cheap pair of headphones throw them and buy some more, see if you can borrow another pair to double check but i am pretty sure this is what it would be. cheap headphones dont last very long as they are mass produced junk, please leave feedback

Used to have this

a microphone and a speaker work off the same principles. there is a magnet and a coil. when you speak, the air makes the speaker cone move and the coil produces a signal because it is moving across a magnetic field. when you apply a alternating voltage to the coil,it moves in opposite direction to the magnet because likes repel and opposites attract. if you apply dc to a speaker it will stay in or out depending on polarity.a bass guitars lowest not is about 50hz or cycles per second.the signal is going plus minus 50 times per second and that is why a speaker moves.because of the size of large cones, they can not move so fast, that is why woofers are big to move lots of air,and tweeters are 1 inch or so,because the range is 20khz or 20000 cycles per second.beacuse microphones have to be very sensitive, the voice coil and structure are extremely small and light.a microphone will produce sound with a signal applied, but burn out with very little power.even a clock radio will blow it out.

My mic is recording sound from the headphones, NOT the mic piece, why is this?

-right click on the volume icon on the system tray and select recording devices

-there should be a selection that says stereo mix or something like it
if not.. right click on a blank space on that box and select "show hidden devices"

-you must disable this device

-make sure your microphone jack is enabled

-click apply and it should work

How can i regain audio when not using headset.

no the software doesnt block the speaker signal. you will need to go into your sound applet on control panel and designate which ports the speakers are plugged into and which the headset is plugged into. very easy set up and at least in windows xp it even prompts you if your plugged into the wrong port it will tell you the right one to change them to.

Microsoft LifeChat Microphone Headset Doesn't Work Properly

You should take your headset to another computer/location and see if your problem still exists.
That way you can eliminate problems with either your computer hardware or your outgoing internet connection (jitter).
I don't think that the CD will be necessary, since it is a USB device, which contains it's own little sound card and doesn't need any drivers.
If the problem persists and it turns out to be a problem with the headset, I would definitely return/exchange it.
