This is a common problem with Yamaha keyboards. The problem is caused by worn-out rubber contacts in the keyboard assembly. In my old Clavinova CLP-500, there was one long rubber contact strip under the keys with two parallel strips of semiconductor material. The Clavinova circuitry determines key velocity by measuring the timing between when the key hits the first and second strips of semiconductor material. The harder you play a key, the less time it takes the key to hit the second semiconductor strip after hitting the first.
After years of playing the keyboard, the keys eventually cause tears in the semiconductor material and this messes up the timing measurement for key velocity. The only solution is to take the keyboard apart and replace the rubber contact strip with a new one.
I got rid of my CLP-500 four or five years ago and got a new CLP-170. The CLP-170 is now having exactly the same problem that the CLP-500 had. Yamaha has re-designed the rubber contacts in the CLP-170 so that there are now eight individual contact strips instead of one long one. The problem is essentially the same, though. You have to take the keyboard apart and replace the worn out rubber contacts.

I suggest you also get a copy of the CLP-170 service manual, part number 001677. It has descriptions of all the steps necessary to take the thing apart and put it back together again. You'll also need a "rod" (which is just a long dowel), part number TX000670. Before you take the circuit boards off the keyboard assembly, you have to insert the dowel between the keys and the frame to keep the keys from falling back and getting in your way. A 5-foot long 1/4-inch dowel will probably work. (I haven't yet taken apart my CLP-170, and I don't have Yamaha's "rod," so I'm not sure if 1/4 inch is the right size or not. I'll report back here if it's not.)

I`ve had a similar problem with a Korg that I use at the club and on gigs, I don`t know whether Yamaha use a similar method or not but when I stripped mine down, I found that the glass LCD panel is connected to the PCB via a ribbon cable which gets sandwiched between the PCB and the LCD panel when screwed up, It`s not soldered or hard wired to the PCB, It was producing intermittent connections between the uPC and the display panel where parts of letters and symbols were missing. When I removed the panel, I found that it was oxidized so I used some switch cleaner which doesn`t leave a residue (Don`t use lubricant or WD40 as this will destroy the LCD panel by penetrating between the layers of Liquid Crystal rendering it useless) and gently cleaned the contacts on both the LCD and PCB panels (Don`t spray the panel or this could penetrate) by spraying a small amount onto a tissue then gently wiping this into the nooks and crannies with a nail brush then wiping off the excess with another tissue. I`ve had no problems since, (touch wood). Please use extreme caution when working with these panels as they are dedicated to your keyboard and therefore extremely expensive to replace. If yours has an extension lead from the LCD panel to a plug on the PCB, it should be a lot easier to clean this one cable where it enters the plug on the PCB than mine was, but still use extreme care. Paul, inside of the Clavinpva at the rear where the power cable connects to the board. there is a 124 volt 1.25 amp fuse. the old type that is a glass cylinder with silver ends. it's an easy fix and will cost about $3.00 for a pack of four. You have to9 take out all of the screws on the bottom of the piano in order for the top to slide off, but you can do it in about 15 minutes!

If it has a sequencer/ recorder built in, you have the ability to change the pitch/ detune by using some key strokes after initiating the program mode. If your not sure how to do that, try unplugging the keyboard for thirty seconds and push the power button while it's unplugged, then plug it back in. Any better? What model is it.

Depending where you are, you gotta check with your Yamaha distributor, or else on Amazon. Then get a tech to take the thing apart (ugh) and replace them keys. Good luck from Venezuela....

When push comes to shove, a factory reset never hurts. Assuming you'd like to proceed with a factory reset, follow these steps: This procedure makes it possible to restore the S08 to the original factory-installed Internal Voices, Multis and System settings. WARNING: The current settings for all Multis and User Voices will be deleted. If the current settings and data are not expendable, create a backup before executing the Factory Reset. 1) Press the [UTILITY] button. 2) Press the [JOB] button. The 'FactorySet' screen will be displayed. 3) Press the [ENTER] button. The 'Sure?' message prompt will appear. 4) Press the [INC/YES] button to execute the Factory Reset. The 'Completed!' message will be displayed to indicate the procedure has been successfully executed. 5) Press the [EXIT] button to return to the Utility Mode.

the back light is maybe to hot and it not good no more well one side it not

Hairdryer - blow a hairdryer over the keyboard and buttons for about 5-10 mins or so. Be careful not to melt plastic !!! Works for me.

I would say the ROM is NG. It is functioning marginally and needs to be replaced or, if possible, reflashed.
